  1. This has been an interesting thread to read.  I would consider us a charlotte mason with a classical flair homeschool...:-P  My biggest thing that is hard for me to wrap my head around and implement is the time of only doing "academics" for about 5 hours in HS.  I can't seem to get it "all done" in that time period and just struggle with that aspect of it.  Do people carry out the times listed in the Pneu?  Has limiting to those times been enough to prepare them for college work?  I want to provide enough for my kids but would love them to have some down time and some time to branch out and work on what interests them.  All ears!!  :bigear:

  2. :(  My youngest will be K in the fall, still deciding what to use.  But this is what I have planned as of now.

    • Phonics- Ordinary Parent's Guide to Reading & various readers (He taught himself to read at 3yrs. so I want to go through this quickly to make sure he has all those special sounds down. (Might switch to RLTL to focus more on spelling since he seems to know most phonics)   :)  He also loves Reading Eggs so we will probably continue that
    • Many books varying from Literature, History, Science- using various lists from AO, MP, and including a Nature Journal
    • Geography/Community Helpers - really want to make this fun he loves learning of other places so thinking of coming up with a geography theme starting with community helpers in our area and then branching out throughout the world.  Focusing on good literature and field trips when we can  :-)
    • Writing- Continue working on correct letter formation, writing letters, and keeping a journal
    • Math- Saxon 1, calendar and games! (looking into online games - Math Seeds)
    • Bible/Character- Golden Living Bible, Children's Story of Virtues, or Faith books, AWANA
    • Spanish- Lyric Language, Hymns (Cedarmont in Spanish), Muzzy videos, maybe a coop class if we can get in
    • Fine Arts- tag along with brother's for our morning time:  (Poet study, Composer, Artist, etc.)

Outside activities:  Possibly an art and Spanish class once a week at the coop (if we can get in) and piano instruction one day a week.

Plan on keeping actual learning time about 45min. -1 hr a day not counting our read aloud times a day.  He LOVES to be outside so we will continue to stay outside 3hrs. a day when we can it keeps us all sane here!  :tongue_smilie:

  3. I agree it can be tricky when you have several kids to juggle.  This year the time has varied depending on the day.  Usually it is right after lunch or right before dinner because my kids schedule varies.  However one day a week it is after dinner!  We do Bible, some memory work, different readings (varies on the day from poetry, artists, composer, Shakespeare, science reading, etc.) It lasts about 1 hr. we are also going through Pillar of Iron this year (we are finishing our Roman study and the kids are really into it)  I still make it a priority, I enjoy being involved in their learning and it is nice to have some time set aside that we are all learning together.  I'll be doing morning time until they leave the house!  :)

  4. Here in VA they require placement tests.

There are other dual enrollent programs online out there that are rather cheap if you want to just try a course to tip your toes in without worrying about placement tests or SAT scores.  I know Bluefield College as well as Taylor University do not require any tests and you can enroll when you are ready.  We have had great success with Bluefield my son took some classes this year at 15 and did really well and enjoyed it.  I do know there are many places where you can do online classes dual enrolled but you would have to check with the school and some are rather pricey.  BC worked great for us due to the cost and ease.  Good luck!

  5. Has anyone else still not been able to access scores?  I called Monday and was given an access code but am still not able to see this years.  I can see the 2014 scores.  Was told on Monday that the CB representative could also not see my scores and would escalate my inquiry but it would take 5-7 business days.  Meanwhile, I have been checking every day to see if they appear.

It is almost comical what they will tell us to keep us off the phone and from complaining.  I have had different supervisors, say they would escalate my inquiry as well.  Looks like they are reading from a screen and telling everyone what they want to hear.  :glare: I am just hoping they get it together and we can at least get the paper copy.  I have had such the runaround and them constantly blaming the school and the school blaming the college board around and around we go.  I feel your frustrations and know you all are not alone!

  6. Anyone else still waiting?  I have been given such the runaround and still after 4 hours + on the phone and days of promises...no one is able to help me.  There needs to be a competitor with some competition and then maybe we wouldn't have these situations.  Makes me lose all hope in these tests!  The incompetency!!!  My patience is about out!

  7. Nope. Still same ol' nothing!! I bet I've logged out/in 25 times since I posted last. No email. Nothing! Thanks for the good vibes though!

Glad I am not the lone ranger here!  I am calling again on Monday with hopes of getting better results.  Good luck to you too!

  8. The saga continues....well, I just arrived back home and decided to check to see if the scores have magically appeared for either kiddo. The site crashed on the first login attempt. Now I am getting an error message stating that password does not match login id. (The login and password fields are stored on my computer and automatically entered into the fields.) The level of incompetence is beginning to become comical.

Well...the latest here when I tried is that the site is:  temporarily unavailable.  I have just given up.  I know that if he was a junior this year I would really be going crazy!  Too bad they are the only game in town, and it surely shows why they can get away with this.  Good luck to the rest of you!

  9. We shouldn't have to do an access code but after talking with the supervisor over at college board this year some have them.  Guess I'll just have to wait.  :(  She did say that they still have not sent out all of the "access codes" and it might take a couple more days for that all to be out.  We'll see!?

  10. I am so frustrated....I have called 3x and everyone has told me something different.  We can't get past the "access code".  My son was not sent one and we have tried all of the ones that we know of.  Did you all get access codes sent to your email?  My son put his email on his test but we have yet to get an access code.  If I have to wait for the paper results I am going to go :willy_nilly:!  So discouraging!

  11.

Did anyone get the message similar to this: (formatting is weird). I don't know the access code, or my student's ID. In her account that I just set up, it doesn't have any scores, so took me to this page. I also had to choose another homeschool in my state as nothing else listed in the thread so far worked for me.

Please supply information about the test that you want a score for. It's best to supply information about the test you're looking for. If you don't have this information, you can try using your student ID.

    Required =

Supply Access code or Student Id to find your score
I can supply my test information.
I can supply my student ID.

Yes, that is what is happening with mine.  I have called twice today and they didn't seem to know why it wasn't showing up on my end.  They did say we did not need an access code and it should automatically come up but mine didn't.  She said that she could see it on her end and all she could tell me was keep trying.  How discouraging!  Maybe I can convince her to give me his results over the phone tomorrow if I have no luck!

  12. Nope. My 8th grader got hers. Fie on the phone fibbers!

That is pretty low!  I waited on the phone for at least a half an hour.  Uhh...will keep trying.  We don't have his access code and the school says they don't have the access to homeschoolers scores.  :-(

  13. I have gone round and round with different people from colleges, HEAV, and counselors from public schools.  My question has anyone who is in the state of VA and has had their child take dual enrollment courses and then attend a college in VA.....Is there a cut off for how many credit hours you can take before loosing freshman status for scholarships?  My son wants to attend Liberty U. and they said they would still be considered a freshman in their eyes with no matter how many credits for where scholarships are concerned but what about government or other scholarships or if he is able to pull off the Merit scholarship is there a cap?  Thanks so much for your help!!!

  14. Does anyone know of any online schools/teachers who use Harold Jacobs for Geometry?  I know of Liberty Tutorials but not sure if the days/times will work for us next year and wanted to see if there were any others.  Even though my oldest has done Derekowens.com I don't think this will be a good fit for my middle son since he needs more one on one live aspect.  Geometry is one subject I know I can NOT teach!  I don't go past Algebra I in math!!

    TIA!
