  1. It says on the site that the home edition can only be used by two players. Does it keep track of progress or can you just use someone else's name and start from the beginning? Is it not any good after the first 2 players are used?

  2. I had seen earobics and wondered about it. If it weren't for his speech delays I wouldn't be worried about the phonemic awareness. I'm just thinking that working on Phonemic awareness might help his speech too. He is starting to get frustrated when we don't understand him and is trying to use his hands to explain. I'm thinking I'm going to check the Signing time videos out at the library so he can use some sign language for now while we work on his speech.

  3. I was wondering if anyone knows of a fun program that works on phonological awareness for prek kids? My ds3 knows his letter sounds and their names, but has a really hard time hearing the sounds in words. His brother could identify beginning word sounds at this point. My ds 3 wants to do school, but I can't move on with Phonics because he has no phonological awareness. I think it may affect his speech as well. We all have an extremely hard time understanding him and sometimes we can't figure out what he is saying. I'm also looking for something to help me to work on his speech. We don't have the money for a Speech Therapist and I'm not yet desperate enough to go through the school district. I'd like to try working with him at home first. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  4. I really like Living Learning books. There are a few spine books and then there are book lists with lots of books to check out at the library so you can delve deeper and there are lots of experiments. Also Something I'm going to try out this year is Hands-on science: Particles in motion. It is supposed to have an experiment for everyday of the yr. My ds wants experiements and hates coloring pgs and worksheets. He says those are not science. He love LLB1 when we did it and I'm going to try LLB2 this yr. It was a little over his head last yr. You can get them all at RR.

Oh an we tried Sonlight science, but they had experiments on fridays. The other days were worksheets and my ds would have none of it.

  5. I would move on. Just continue with flash cards to get in review. Have you tried those math facts songs? that might help. I was slow memorizing my facts. I teach math now and tool a lot of upper level math in college. As a matter of fact the students in college who were math majors were actually slow on math fact recall, but were really good at Algebra and Calc. So there is hope:)

  6. Well mine resisted Singapore from the start, so I ended up with Abeka and he loves it and does math happily. We've tried RS too but he was too distracted by all the manipulatives. We used Horizons and MUS last year and he liked Horizons. I thought it moved too fast and didn't like the TM. I love the Abeka Homeschool Guide. He liked MUS Primer and he was fine with MUS Alpha for about 1/3 of the way and then he started requesting a colorful math book. He is very visual.

  7. I ordered The Elements from there. I spoke with RR a while back and they said that Beautiful Feet quit letting them sell their stuff. She said sometimes the smaller companies just find it easier to do all the orders themselves. I know I have friends who wish TT could be ordered through there. I wish RR would come to our conventions. They said that they weren't invited to our conventions because they discount.

  8. Well you can find Sonlight cheaply on the swap boards. It won't have all the hands on stuff that AWOA has. There is also Winter Promise, but it is expensive too. There is My Father's World and there is a new program called Path to Exploration. The ages for that starts at 3rd grade, but I'm sur eyou can tweak it like you would foor AWOA. Also there is Galloping the Globe. I think the Path to Exploration is more similar to AWOA out of all those. http://www.geomatters.com/products/category.asp?CID=53

  9. There is nothing wrong with using a text and then reading some extra books. I can't say whether it would be considered classical or not. But my opinion is that Classical doesn't work for everyone and if it is not working for you then do what will. I was homeschooled back before classical homeschooling became popular and pretty much the only history choices were Alpha and Omega, BJU and Abeka. My mom just threw one of those at us to read each year. I now have a degree in History, so it didn't stifle my love of History and I did extremely well in college, so it didn't hurt me there either. Do what you need to do. You could get a truthquest guide or All through the ages for book suggestions to flesh out topics if you need something like that. Anyway, that is just my opinion:)

  10. I've gotten Miquon on paperbackswap.com. Also someone is selling REAL science odyssey Earth is listed by Cactus Pair you could buy that.

There are few Lively Latin's listed on the swap board. They are more than $55 but you won't have to spend all the money on ink.

Also someone on here just sold the Classical writing primers so if you keep your eye out, you might find them used.

RR has bargain versions of 2 of the geography workbooks too and the Bible.

  11. I buy used and I get books on paperback swap. I tutor 2 nights a week and that money is almost totally devoted to curriculum. On occasion I need a book shelf or I need to buy clothing and the money will have to come out of what I make. Well I have to by the kids b-day presents and Hanukkah gifts with it as well. Class tuition comes out of it as well. Most of it goes toward curriculum though.

I forgot to add that I sell used curriculum as well.
