Well, for us it's my mother who's about 4.5 hours away, and we go to see her a couple times a year. She also comes this way to see us a couple times as well. My sister and her family live about 5-5.5 hours away, and we got that way maybe twice a year and vice versa. My mother heads to my sisters--about 8 hours for her--once or twice depending one where we do our holiday celebrating.

:001_wub: this thread!
On the topic of Harry Potter. Would a bunch of parents of 11 year olds really send their kids off to a boarding school where all the other kids were untrained with their wands? That just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen! Homeschooling might be a better approach for these special needs kids!
I always thought it odd that the climax of every story was coincidentally at the end of a school year. Does Voldermort know when May rolls around it's time to get serious?
In Order of the Phoenix, when Dumbledore is avoiding Harry because Voldemort is getting in his head, why doesn't he just tell Harry that instead of allowing Harry to feel like he has the plague all year?
I LOVE the Harry Potter books, but I could go on and on all day about the things that make NO sense whatsoever to me in them. :D
Oh, I love Harry Potter too, but yeah, I have all sorts of questions about it. I saw one recently in a Meme: Fred & George see Ron on the Marauder's Map sleeping every night with a man named Peter Pettigrew, and don't think anything of it?
Why doesn't Remus patent the magic behind the Marauder's Map and live off the income?
Ok, well, again, when I want to, I can never think of the questions I've asked before. :D

Why do Bob the Builder and Wendy keep letting Spud help with *anything*?? Why hasn't he been straight-up banned from their property? He's ALWAYS screwing things up and making more work for the crew.
And why is it the people in that town always wait until just a few days before a big event to tell Bob they need something built for it? They obviously don't have to deal with permits and codes and such.
And yet, there's a building inspector that occasionally comes with his clipboard.
And how does he get those projects done so fast?! Builds entire roads in a day, redoes the interior of the museum in a couple hours. Amazing!

A pig! Curly tail/ears, pink with pink spots.
Naw, she has antenna not ears. I'm telling you, Uniqua is her name and also her species! :-D
-
What the HECK is Uniqua?!
She's unique!
Seriously, I think that's the answer.
How do Salt & Pepper procreate and manage to make Paprika and Cinnamon?
Since Bert & Ernie [and some of the others] live in their own homes, shouldn't they have jobs to pay rent, buy groceries, etc.?
On Dinosaur Train, what does the T-Rex eat? Won't it stunt his growth to not have the diet he evolved to?
I'm always asking questions like this--I drive my family crazy!--but of course, right now I can't think of most of them.
Love this thread!

Why aren't they homeschooled?
I think the answer to that might be the same as WendyLouWho's question about the clueless mom. :lol

I cannot.believe.I.missed.it!!!! :( :( :( :(
She must have started moments after I went to bed. Literally, last I looked in on her, she was lying down chewing her cud. :( :( :( :(
The baby is so cute though!!!!

Two twins can always be pushed together to make a king if desired. Keep your king mattress cover and sheets!

She seems to be holding her tail up almost constantly this evening. Think it means anything?
ETA: Funny, as soon as I post that, she put it down.

I would rather go alone, no kids, no hubby. Sometimes, I have to take the kids, and then it's stressful hell. Occasionally, I'll send DH for individual items, but he doesn't have my discerning taste balanced by frugality for my comfort level, so I prefer to do it myself.

What does everyone think?
Tonight or tomorrow??
I dunno, she's not lying down like Walter tonight. That seems a little different.

Nevermind. She's so not in labor. This giraffe can't wait until November. I was thinking "if she does, I'm not watching" but I know I will. Sigh. Why is this so consuming?
My husband keeps laughing at me cuz I keep checking in with her and/or here with you guys. I didn't tell him that I also "liked" the zoo's FB page!

You can make multiple lists for each of those categories. You can also control the privacy setting for each list.
So I have lists for myself, each of my children, things I want for homeschooling; those are all viewable by my family and friends [public, I think]. I also have a list or two of things that I keep private; things I want for the home that aren't really giftable items, etc.

Pronunciation when I'm reading to myself doesn't bother me. Much. But when I'm reading out loud? Oy!
Ok, here's the list along with my guesses after reading this thread:
Aramis [air-uh-mee?]
Vannes [von?]
Fouquet [foo-quay?]
Colbert [coal-bear?]
Vaux [voe?]
D'Artagnon [dee-arr-tag-non?]
Baisemaux [bays-moe?]
I think Porthos and Athos are straight forward, but maybe I'm wrong? They don't seem French to me... [porth-ohs & ath-ohs?]
We're only through ch. 6 of the adaptation [which is only ~20 chapters], but I suspect these are the main characters.

A quick tip: Dumas is not pronounced "Dumb*ss" as I once heard a visitor to Montreal use it.
If you want to send me a list, I can give you the pronunciations. erind35@yahoo.ca
 It's pretty pathetic, but I /think/ I'm close on his name. ;-)
Should I email it, or just post it here? It's mostly the character list and a few place names.

Amen!!!
[And also? Why do all dresses have to be either sleeveless or long-sleeve?!]

Yay, thank you both!!!

Our current read-aloud is "The Man in the Iron Mask" by Dumas [an adaptation by Mantell]. I'm really struggling with pronouncing the French names and places. Does anyone know of a resource that might help?
TIA

I dunno, but if he's that small try looking at baby or juvenile snake pics for comparison.
We once found a tiny little snake in our garage that had a somewhat diamond-y pattern on his back, and I was a little worried til I saw that baby black snakes have that pattern whereas the adults are much more uniform in color.
Fun!
[My DH would FREAK OUT!!! if I tried to keep a snake in the house.

This is going to sound mean but I promise that that isn't my intention. I think your daughter needs to learn to pick her battles. No amount of documenting car seats and soda is going to change anything. Those are big issues to her but not to the court. She is going to have learn to relax about some of this stuff or she is going to make herself a nervous wreck.
I'm sorry, I'm going to try to say this gently as well, but while I agree the soda issue may not be the hill to die on [metaphorically speaking], I disagree that carseat safety is a molehill. It IS important enough to stand up for because it's life or death. It only takes ONE time of inappropriate or insufficient carseat safety for a child to die or be permanently disabled.
I really hope the OP's dd is able to reason with these in-laws or else get the arrangement changed.

kfeusse, did you ever get any answers from Netflix?
Last night, my Instant queue was gone in addition to the recently watched.
This morning, both came back. Weird, but I hope it stays put now!
Are you homeschooling in *major* metropolitain area?

 I know that town; I live just north of it. But didn't that get taken down? Hmm, no, can't find it in the news, but I thought....
I sometimes wonder if Kung Fu Panda and I have at least one mutual friend IRL. :D
