  1. My daughter is using Teaching Textbooks for Geometry and understands most of the concepts and can work the problems except doing proofs. I have watched the cds for the proof explanations and I can not grasp what theorem or postulate to use either. It is not that we don't understand the theorems, postulates definitions, etc., it is when to know why you use one over the other next in the proof. Any suggestions? i am at the point of hiring a geometry tutor in our area and they are not cheap!:tongue_smilie:
  2. I recently read where if you submitted your course syllabus, books etc to college board, they could approve your class as an honors class. I can't remember if I read that on this forum or somewhere else and now I can't find it. Has anyone done this and how did you go about it?
  3. I am so so new to this. I have been told to do transcipts of grades and a reading log and an activities/community service log. Why do you include a course description and what do you put on there that is not self explanatory using the course name as listed in the transcript, ex. Ald 1, Chemistry etc? What else should I include in a college application admissions packet?
  4. I just read a post that a student who did Apologia 's Physical Science in 8th grade could count that as a high school level course. How do I put that on my transcripts as far as the year. My transcripts show her 9th grade year w/ biology already. Won't that look odd if she has two sciences down for 9th grade? Does this make sense?
  5. Is anyone else keeping a high school reading log? Do you put all of their textbooks here also, like science, math, etc.? Do you include all of the books they had to read for lit classes or just the reading they did for fun?:001_huh:
  6. Has anyone tried the above tracking systems or have one you like better? I want one that provides forms for transcripts tht will include xtra curricular activities, book lists, community service etc. Am I wanting too much?:glare:
  7. I have a dd turning 14 in 4 days who will be entering 10th grade if we keep on track. She is intellectually off the charts but am concerned about graduating her at 16 because of maturity. I am new at all the terminology used as far as Advanced Placement exams, clep exams, etc. She took the SAT this past year for practice and scored 740 on the critical reading. I called two of the colleges that she might be considering about having her take the Clep as far as when to take it and how long it would be in effect. Both schools said they would give her credit for English 1 with a score like that w/o having to take the Clep. My questions are when do you take an AP exam versus a Clep? What is an AP course versus taking a college course online? If a child takes a college level world history class, for example, do they assign that as fulfilling their high school history requirement and as college credit? Is there a website that discusses all these types of things?
  8. Thank you all for the great advice. This is my first post on my first night and the response was excellent. I have been on forums where it would be days before anyone posted!:001_smile:
  9. I see a lot of advice for taking Geometry after Alg 1 instead of Alg 2 because of the SAT/ACT testing. But doesn't the student lose their algebra base if they have that break? It seems to me you would continue with alg 2 so that there is no break. Any advice?:bigear:
