  1. This was more of a thought provoking question rather than a piece of advice, but it changed my entire outlook on homeschool vs. public school, and in many other things in life.

My husband and I were discussing homeschooling with our pastor and I blurted out, "I don't feel 'called' to homeschool." My pastor asked me, "Do you feel 'called' to public school?" I was like, "Huh, since you put it that way, no, I don't feel called to public school either." He said something like, "If it were me, I would need to feel called to public school in order to put my kids in that situation." I left that conversation thinking, "Wow, I never thought of it that way."

I've been homeschooling ever since. Though there are days when I curse that question, "Do you feel called to public school?" All in all, I am very glad he asked me that.

Wow, I never thought about that way either. 'called to public school'

now that question will stick in my mind, too!

  2. Logos Latin I

    Life of Fred: Fractions

    Life of Fred: Algebra II

    Life of Fred: Statistics

:iagree: WISHED the Life of Fred series existed when I was in Junior High..I would have loved it and maybe would have actually enjoyed math. Looking foward to my son reading life of Fred:Fractions this year . Also looking foward to Tapestry Of Grace YR 1 with both kids!

  3. My son is a rising 5th grader and read The Hobbit for summer reading. He read some of it himself and other times I read it out loud. He loved the story so much that he wanted to find out all about J.R.R. Tolkien as he could. There are some documentaries that we got from netflix about Tolklien which he enjoyed plus he saw all the Lord OF The Rings movies.

    He really loved this book:001_smile:

  4. The same exact problem with my son who will be homeschooled this year for 5th grade. I heard great things about Phonetic zoo turning poor spellers into good ones ! My ds is an auditory learner so this might be just the perfect fit for him.

DS and so many of his public school friends are really bad spellers..he got great grades on his spelling test then forget alot of it..in 4th grade his teacher stopped giving spelling test mid year!! so glad we will be HS this year...
