  1. I just started watching our first great course DVD series ever!

Its the Phil Dialeaders series on medieval times and I'm learning new things right along

    With my son....sooooo interesting!

I already have a mental list of the great courses we want to see in the near future.

Great Courses from this point on will be a permant part of our homeschool!

The library makes this possible because I would blow of homeschool budget trying

To buy all the ones we want to see!

  2. I have heard great thing about K12's American Odyssesy textbook. I'm thinking about

Using that for my son's 10th grade American history course.

Has anyone used AO and have any suggestions of what I could add along with the textbook?

I'm definetly adding the Great Courses lectures but other then that I'm looking for supplementary

type of readings to go along with AO.

    Thanks!

    Pam

  3. [-I think what many people also don't get is how unless you completely cut-off contact with NPD, the attacks are almost 100% unavoidable. There is no passing the bean-dip, walking away, you can't even pretend to agree to make it go away. The NPD is 100% calculating & out to get you & they will not stop until its done. Even then they may not stop. You cannot survive the constant attacks without severe emotional damage or becoming a robot. Yes, I know how paranoid & out-there this sounds. Its just the truth and you don't understand unless you've lived it.

This is so true. NPDs are dangerous, wicked and are truely horrible.

  4. on our last trip, sil and I set the goal to visit every single deluxe resort and we did it. It was fun, seeing all the different places, pools, etc. Also even tho I live in a town with a Boardwalk, I still love Disney's Boardwalk which includes the deluxe resorts of Yacht Club, Boardwalk Resort and Beach Club. You can get to this 3 resorts from Epcot and they are well worth seeing. All of the deluxes are worth visiting.

We have done this! My favorite time for resort hopping is during Christmas. Love the Wildressness Lodge rustic Christmas decorations with the HUGE Christmas tree in the lobby or the enormous gingerbread cottage at the Grand Floridian. Can't wait until its that time again!

  5. My personal favorite was the part where it says that a man lives a work-filled, sad, meaningless life and the only thing that brings him joy is the warm "embrace" of his wife :D.

I read that to DH and for some reason he keeps moping around saying "Woe is me! My life is so SAD AND MEANINGLESS! WHAT EVER could make me feel like life is worth living??"

    :lol::lol::lol:

    FUNNY!:D

  6. :grouphug: It will be okay!!

I think everyone has a moment when they really want to "keep up with the Joneses." We live in a very small house. During a playgroup at our home about 6 years ago, one mother caught her dd (about 5 at the time) by the arm and said, very loudly, "[Daughter,] this is a TINY little house. You cannot run the way you do in your own playroom!" I'd like to believe that she was saying that out of respect for my home, but given the fact that she let her toddler twins roam without supervision and rip a section of my (then new) wallpaper, I don't! And she couldn't have inserted more venom in the remark if she had tried. It really, really bothered me for a while. Then winter came, and the heating bills began to arrive. And that's when I realized just how thankful I am for my "tiny little house." :D

Such a TACKY remark and then to let her kids do damage to your wallpaper! She really showed her character that day:glare:

  7. I am relieved to see that I am not the only one who feels lonely at times. My problem is I'm not just lonely in my homeschooling journey but just life here in SC in general.

I'm curious to hear about your experience in SC because we are thinking

about moving there one day. Im sorry to hear how lonely life is there for you.

  8. More people need to know about NPD. These people can be like murders in the sense they will try at least to kill your spirit. Especially the scapegoat child...they aren't some out of control loose cannon but sneaky, calculating, liars who will slander you to ....no matter that you are their grown flesh and blood child

They have no natural affections. None.

  9. Don't mean to hijack but what IS G3?

thank you everyone..i received my passwords today!:) now I'm happy.

g3online.com is online courses for gifted children but open to all kids, I believe. There is something called social discussion in which kids can talk in forums as a socail outlet but also have access to BrainPop, BrainPop, JR., and basic Discovery streaming online video for $59. until July 2012! It's an amazing deal and my son today has already watched videos on Vikings, crocodiles, snakes and on and on!

  10. My three oldest children were always in PS and my fourth went to PS for two years. The "socialization" at school isn't that great. Much of it is very negative. One of the main reasons I pulled my fourth son out of PS was because his confidence level had sunk so low, his stress level had risen so high and he would spend entire weeks without talking to another child. He thought that not talking to anyone was better than putting up with all the teasing he got for his interests and knowledge.

If someone brings up the socialization issue to me, I usually just start laughing. I tell them how my son's social skills have improved dramatically in the one year of homeschooling. He's confident again, he talks to people and he spends more time playing with others. He's still shy but his social skills are improving.

My son had similar experiences in PS. In fourth grade there is a picture in the schools year book of his class walking in a line to lunch and my DS face and body language is that of boredom/misery. It makes me sad to see that picture. There was LESS socialization going on for him at school then homeschooling. He is SO much happier with homeschooling and the socialization has been positive and confident boosting as well!

  11. Well, Im not very computer savvy so I will try my best in explaining. :)

    First, I read this.http://www.ehow.com/how_5895056_convert-_pages-_pdf.html.

I used nuance PDF reader. I uploaded the TOG student pages from a file. Then once the pages were on Nuance PDF reader I would high light what I wanted and then copy then go to Microsoft Office and paste. From there I would create the space between the questions then print.

This is the free PDF reader I downloaded http://www.nuance.com/products/pdf-reader/index.htm

  12. Yes there is a way!

I did it this year after reading this..http://web.mac.com/rivendellpress/Rivendell_Press/TOG_Workbooks/Entries/2009/6/20_Spiral_Workbooks.html

I upload first to a PDF reader then from there to Windows office then made the changes..
