  1. Has anyone used Elemental Science? I am looking at the Physics for the Grammar Stage. Any advice, impressions would be helpful! Thanks!
  2. This is our first year homeschooling. We tried a lot of programs and this seemed to work great for my DD9, but that was when she was doing review. Now she should be able to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers by 2 and 3 digit numbers, but she gets frustrated with it. It is easy to use and does the grading, my dd gets consistent 80s and 90s...but I don't know if she is always getting the same type of problem incorrect :( I am thinking of switching her to Math U See...and the level she would be at would mean we basically wasted a year.
  3. Thank you all! This is our first year homeschooling. we tried many math programs before Math U See...we love MUS, my kids just don't seem to use the manipulatives! Glad it's not just mine! Thanks for the input!
  4. I am about to purchase math U See Gamma for my dd9. How much does it use the blocks? I bought the fraction overlays for Epsilon and my dd11 used them for the first few lessons and that was it. Wondering if it is worth it. Also, does anyone know if Base 10 blocks are the same or similar or if there are generics of the blocks? trying to keep costs down.
  5. My 9 year old LOVES it, my 11 year old HATED it. If you asked me a few months ago, I would say it was great for kids that like to use the computer. However, as my daughter is learning new concepts (like multiplying 3-4 digit numbers by 3 digit numbers and division) I am finding that she is not getting it. It was fine to reinforce what she already knew, but as far as learning something new, not so much. Also, although I love the grading system in that I don't have to do it, I have no idea what she is learning and although she gets 90s, if she is getting the same kinds of problems wrong over and over...it takes a lot of digging on my end to get this info. It could just be my daughter, as she may need to "see" things or have manipulatives for new concepts. We are on break now and then I am starting her on Math U See Gamma
  6. I -and several friends- have used Story of the World 1 with 5th graders. The reading was fine, however, I found that a lot of the activities in the activity book were a bit young. Is this your first year hsing? (We are completing our first year) I found that my 5th grader was not at all familiar with narration and that those exercises in the Activity Book really helped her to grow. She did enjoy some of the activities in the book and others we tweaked to make them a little more involved. I found a great braden Bryce site for quizzes on the chapters. Also, at the end of the year, she is writing a paragraph comparing and contrasting life in Ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt and she seems very prepared for this activity after a year of SOTW 1. Plan on using SOTW 2 next year :)
  7. Thanks so much! I had never heard of many of these!! Great!
  8. I am looking for a program to teach my girls the Latin and Greek roots of words. I don't like how many vocabulary programs seem "all over the place". I am looking for something that teaches the roots of words, without getting into declensions, etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  9. I started with Life of Fred, which is a really cute program. But I am supplementing with Teaching Textbooks which my kids seem to LOVE! It's all done on the computer and you can check their grades.
  10. What a wonderful day! Each time one came out, I felt like I was watching a miracle unfold all over again! To have a disaster like this and no deaths is just amazing. God Bless Chile and God Bless those miners as they make their way back to real life!:001_smile:
  11. Hi! This is our first year homeschooling. My girls are 10 & 8. We are using DITHOR and I bought the teacher book but not the student book. Has anyone used the program without the student book, if so what did you use in place of it? OR if you have used it, what was it like? Thanks! Theresa:)
