Let her go for it. That is wonderful!

Thanks, that was my feeling also. I am using ETC for my younger I just did not know if I should get a spelling workout also?
-
I would like to know if any of you have tried: Spelling workout? or
building spelling skills(I think that is what it is called by CLP)
I am trying to decide between the 2 and I am not sure which one would work better for my daughter. She is going into 2nd grade but we are going to be doing 1st grade work as far as spelling and phonics go. She really struggled this last year so we are going to review again this year instead of moving on to harder stuff.
She liked doing workbooks-fill in the blank type stuff so that is why I think 1 of these 2 curriculums will work with her. I guess I think she need the one that is going to have more phonics instruction with it since she is not reading really well.
thanks

what is loop scheduling?
thanks
-
I think it is good but I also supplement with other stuff. We dont just do Explode the code.
-
I think it is great that they homeschooled that many children no matter how they did it.
-
thanks, we are doing that this year so this will come in handy

I would love to know how to go about helping a 7 yr old not get so frustrated with reading. She hates school becuase it is all so difficult for her. I know there are some people who believe in waiting but she would be in 2nd grade in ps and I feel if I am going to home school I better do something but I feel like I need repeat 1st grade with her. What would you do? We have tried everything
Abeka, explode the code, SWR, k12,.
At what point do you start wondering if there is a problem and get some professional help?
thanks

anyone have any books they want to sell. I am looking to buy chemistry and biology
-
I used Abeka for k-3 for phonics and math now I am using a bunch of different things but it worked for us. What works for 1 family may not work for another that is the beauty of homeschooling and being able to pick what you want for your kids
-
I have not used either although I am going to be using saxon this next year. There is a post on here somewhere though that talks alot about TT and how it is a good curriculum but maybe you need to hve your child work a year ahead because I guess it is not the same scope and sequence as other math books(its easier) I dont know since I have not used it but I would do a search for TT and look into to what others have said.

I will have to check it out. I am always looking for a new place to order curriuculum. Although , I think rainbow resource is the best and they have everything and usually the cheapest price.

Your list looks good. I have a 2nd grader so we just got done reading some of those books. Some of them on your list my 4th grader read last year so you could shorten your list and save a few of those for the following year.
-
I have heard good things about drawing with children and also artistic pursuits
I might try them both this year and see which one I like better
-
dont think my kids would be behind if anything I know my 4th grader would be ahead. I think it depends on the kid. I know for me, I would be more worried about all the other stuff that goes on in school. I think it would be kinda of a shock for my kids to see how school really is. (I do have a son that just graduated from ps)
but as far as academically I dont worry about that.

I have not used rs4k but I have heard nothing but great things about it. This is the first time I have read some negativity on it. I was planning on using it in the fall. I guess I better look into it more.

I am using:
explode the code
MCP math 2
real science 4 kids-pre-level 1 biology
BJU heritage studies history
Dnelian handwritting
sonlight's literature selection
-
I use veritas press and sonlight for a list of books each year
-
I think Apologia science is great for co ops
-
Science: Real science 4 kids-biology and chemistry
Math: Saxon
History: Abeka
Writing: IEW
Grammar: Shurley
-
I think it depends on the child. 1 of my Daughters loves shurley and the other really struggles
-
We are doing next year 4th grade and I am using abeka history
-
I use veritas press and sonlights choices for each grade

I think dictation is good. I am going to try IEW this year with my 9 year old. I think she is ready but I know in our homeschool group there a some 9 yr olds that aren't ready for that type of writing program
