  1. If you are more of a volume eater, then the best thing to do would be to bulk up your "small" portion with A LOT of veggies to make a larger portion that is still in line with your weight loss goals. I'm sure you might do that now, but make it A LOT of veggies. Double the amount you already use. If you have oatmeal in the morning, add an entire diced apple with skin to it plus some cinnamon. If you have a sandwich, load it with veggies (raw, roasted, sauteed, etc.) plus have some veggie based soup on the side and some veggies to dip into a little hummus. Think volume = lots of veggies....any way you like them.

    HTH a little bit :)

  2. I'd love to hear all of your rave reviews...or not so raving reviews. I'm probably going to order this for my older 4 yr. old in the next few days. I think she's very ready for it and it looks really fun.

I had bought it for my son a while ago and we never used it because he progressed quickly from Leapfrog DVD's, Then we moved into ETC, Primary Phonics, and OPGTR. This year we are adding in AAS.

I'm trying to sell mine! Still wrapped in plastic and never used :)

  3. The scientific consensus on the "why" of America’s obesity problem has recently- since about 2002- undergone a profound paradigm shift.

The old way of thinking illustrated by the food pyramid with grains and carbs as the base of the pyramid is and was wrong and damaging. We should be eating far fewer carbs/grains (whether whole grain or not) and more fat and protein.

Respected physicians who head the nutrition science departments at Harvard and Duke have conducted clinical trials (not observational studies - for those who care about the distinction) which have shown:

    1. Carbs cause insulin resistance which promotes obesity and weight gain.

    2. Fat does not as previously thought cause heart disease.

    3. Type 2 diabetes can be cured by practicing a LCHF (low carb/high fat) diet.

If diet, health, and weight gain/loss is a concern for you, please look into LCHF diets and do some research. Here are some valuable links:

Stepping off my soap box now......

True, but Type 2 diabetes is also reversed and cured with a vegan diet. Also, Raw Vegan Diets promote amazing benefits.

I think the problem is when it is high carb along with high fat. If you eat more carbs, then you should eat lower fat. If you eat higher fat, then you should have lower carbs.

I'm off to read the rest of the thread now.

  4. My three kids do Judo and Jiu Jitsu :) We will also be starting them in Muay Thai.

Judo has amazing throws and groundwork.

Jiu Jitsu has awesome groundwork and submissions.

Muay Thai.....Kicks, knees, punches. Love it :)

  5. No, I think it is to late. Dh will be writing the Attorney General tomorrow, but I think it is just to late for us.

If anyone, has any advice on what to do after your credit is shot I would really appreciate it.

Oh, yeah it looks like they did not include are student loans either. :tongue_smilie:

Well, worst case scenario is that you can file for BK. If you do, the bank can not come after you for any difference when they sell the house at the sheriff auction. By filing for BK it will also stall the forclosure for a little bit. On your credit report, there will be no Foreclosure listed. They can only state: Included in Bankruptcy.

No matter what, just start to save everything you can. Check to see if your state is a judicial or non-judicial state and look at the timeline for the forclosure process for your state.

Good news is that if you chose to buy again, you can get a mortgage three years after the deed, etc transfers out of your name and into the new buyers name.

    HTH a little :)

  6. I plan on putting the card in a page protector with a sheet of computer paper. My kids and myself can make notes of good resources, links, movies, etc as we go on the paper. Having it all in one place and making it that they can cross off the list as they go. :)

    Oooohhhh....I like this idea!!

  7. I was looking into something secular like CLE too, and settled on GWG. For a spiral effect, you might consider "Daily Grams" or Evan Moor Daily Language Practice. Perhaps combined with GWG?

For part of speech practice, how about doing a few madlibs every day?

You know what?? Those are some great ideas! :)

    Thanks!!

  8. Do you know of any LA that is similar to CLE LA, but secular?

I have already used GWG. I do like it, but my DD is just not retaining a lot from it. I am not saying it is the program. It very well could just be my DD. Does anyone know how to help a child retain information better? If I asked her right now, "What is a preposition?", she would look :001_huh:. She is going into 6th grade. She can do the material while she is "doing" it. Then, later, she will forget.

    Thanks all!!

  9. For people who are excluding/limiting fruit how do you explain that LF vegans and LF raw vegans are skinnier and don't have a lot of excess body fat compared to....mostly everbody, lol?

Here is a site that the owners follow the 80-10-10 diet which is a LF RAW Vegan diet and tell you to consume in excess of 2500/3000 plus calories per day of mainly fruit (esp. LOTS OF BANANAS).

    http://www.30bananasaday.com/forum/categories/high-carb-raw-vegan-chat/listForCategory

Just curious as to what everyone thinks. I was very surprised by the amount of fruit they eat, yet are more thin with very low body fat, than the masses. Remember, they eat approx 3000+ calories per day and a TON of carbs.

This is only to see the side of the argument that fruit DOES NOT make you fat.

Hope I am making sense in what I am saying, lol! It has been a long day....

  10. We do have a dog park, but we have to get a form approved to make sure he is current on his vaccinations. I'll ask at the shelter. He doesn't have good recall so I am wary of this. So, as of right now, he doesn't have any place to run off leash. I desperately want to change this.

What about a neighbor or friend who has a fenced back yard? Maybe you can work it out with a couple friends/neighbors that you can use their backyard for 30 minutes daily??

Having a change, any change, in life is a struggle for many people. Things will get better! Just keep thinking of the positives that a dog will bring and not so much of the negative. When we got our two dogs, it was a huge adjustment. I don't do well with change in routine, etc. However, we molded ourselves into a new routine and flow of the day. There were lots of times we were asking ourselves "WHY?!" But, now they are very much a part of our life. The unconditional love they have for us is AMAZING. IDK, we just love them so much and they love us.

    HTH!!
