  1. Our church offers Children's church as a pull out from regular services for ages 3-8. There is also a nursery for babies and toddlers. Mine have always attended children's church but my youngest is now the only one who qualifies to go. We are also there for Sunday School classes where we all either teach or attend each Sunday so they are getting the children's level stories and attending services with us as a family.

  2. I tend to have school all put out the night before so that my early riser can go ahead and get started on her work but it's not a big deal if my late riser doesn't start until later. It depends on our activities the evening before; some nights we are out later with music lessons, etc. We have regular assignments and regular school days but not regular start times. HTH

  3. Yes I have, but very fortunately not this year (at least not yet). Remember you do not have to start in full force with everything all at once. We started 2 weeks ago but with what we have (about 3/4 of our total load) while we settle in the rest and can be full force in a couple of weeks. When we are winding down our year we will finish some items earlier and have more breathing room earlier.

  4. Wow, there is a bonus to staying off site then. We will travel next weekend down and it will take us, at most, 1 hour to claim our bags and take our shuttle to our place and be at dinner by 7 no problem. Disney Transport must be slow. I would have thought 7 pm to be no problem but I guess it is. Hope you have a great time!!

I agree, head to Downtown Disney on your arrival night. Tons of great options for dinner and fun and it's all right there!

  5. My dd8 started a fever last Monday at 102 - I took her to Urgent care that night for strep test - Wed. she still had a fever so I took her to Ped. - strep test was negative on Thurs - still fever on Thurs but none Fri and Sat - on Sun she had a slight fever, 99.5 so this time it was DH's turn and he took her in - turns out she has a double ear infection and finally got something for it. She is feeling way better this morning.

  6. According to our ped. it's not that unusual. My dd allowed an entire earring back to grow into her ear before saying anything to anyone so she required surgery to remove the back. Fortunately after all of that her doctor was able to fix her hole and not problems since then. He did stress that using the bigger backs (the type you have to buy separately) during the first year of new earrings can prevent that from happening. HTH

  7. All theme parks include bag checks at the entrances. For that reason we carry 1 bigger tote bag instead of 5 smaller bags, one on each person. It takes about 10x longer to get into the park if you are carrying lots of little bags with little compartments. Each bag must be removed from the person, all compartments opened and checked, and then everything put back together. I use a large tote bag with a smaller zippered section - it takes me two seconds to have it checked at the entrance, plus then I have room to stash purchases or water bottles, etc. HTH! We are in WDW later today thru Sunday.

  8. I really do enjoy homeschooling. We've wrapped up our 6th full year with many more ahead and we are all looking forward to what we have picked out for next year. My middle would like to do this forever :001_smile: and we will see how it goes. I had no idea when we started this journey that I would truly enjoy it as much as I do and that we all really like our days. Like someone else said, don't ask me this in February:D.

  9. We were just there last weekend while dh worked. It depends on where you are staying, but if you get to stay on the strip you can walk just about anywhere in A/C. There are numerous spas, museums and other attractions. While we were there we saw the Blue Man Group at the Venetian, very cool. Also we drove over to the Mob Museum - newly opened in February of this year it is a very well done 3 story museum all about the history of the Mob and the Law Enforcement Agencies. The pool can be very nice (we had over 100 degrees our whole trip so the pool wasn't that refreshing). Have fun! Oh, we saw Penn and Teller on a previous trip and they are still my favorite show.

  10. This is my plan for my rising 6th grader:

TT6 (finish, and start TT 7)

    SOTW3 along with Kingfisher

    Formal outlining practice

Memoria Press Literature and guides from grade 6

    Red Herrings Logic

    The Language Mechanic

    Spelling Workout F

    French 1

Mavis Beacon Typing for Kids (wants to start this summer)

Real Science 4 Kids Physics plus Mythbusters

    Choir at church

    Gymnastics?

Also we have a bible study for families at our church on Mondays that she will participate in this year. We are celebrating our last day of school today and will pick up where we left off in July. When we start again it will be summer olympics so we may delay the start of science while we spend time watching the olympics.

    HTH

  11. SOTW - all four books along with activity guides and audio books. Truly the best that we've used in our house and I'm so very excited to be going thru them again. Next year we will be on SOTW3 with my oldest on her second time thru and my two youngers on their first time thru. I have all of these little notes in the AG from the first time thru to help with planning, but truly very easy to use and can be customized to whatever your family is really into. We personally love the cooking projects and the maps but I also love the extra history and literature listed for each chapter as well as the student activity pages. This year I ordered copies of the pages to save myself time in photocopying for notebooks. My oldest loves to use the Kingfisher to go deeper into history along with her siblings and it's all spelled out in the AG. Love SOTW!

  12. My two oldest started using TT in March of this year and we have enjoyed the program. I used the TT placement tests available at their website. They are both progressing very well with it and love the fact quizzes and instant feedback that they receive from the computer while they are practicing. While we haven't received their testing results, they both felt very good after testing this year. HTH

  13. I would try to remember this is one test. How has their math work been going on a daily basis? The beauty of TT is that you can log in and see exactly what is getting missed and what needs review. Even though TT is very independent we review daily any trouble concepts together. Also my 5th grader is currently in TT6 and my 2nd is in TT3; that's where they placed with TT online placement testing and they are both fine at those levels. HTH!

  14. Wow, strong opinions on this one. I've been a quilter for longer than I've been a mother and have done it both ways many times. There are those who look down their noses at fabric from JoAnn and it sounds like the ladies at the quilt store were doing just that. There are many nice fabrics that come from JoAnn and there are many nice ones that come from quilt stores. It is true that shrinkage could vary in the different fabrics but this is just as true as if you had bought them all at the quilt store. I haven't pre washed fabrics for a quilt in years and my fabrics come from all over including my stash that is always changing. I agree with the color catcher; use it in the first washing of the finished quilt and any sharply contrasting colors will end up on that and not running all over your quilt. Enjoy making your quilt and you should post a picture when it is done!

  15. I have used Horizons Math 1 now for the third child and have always found the TM to be essential to the whole program. There are drills and other activities located only in the TM that we have used with great success. Oldest used Horizons until switching to TT this year, my middle also used Horizons until 3rd and switched to TT and now my youngest will finish up Horizons 1 with 2 on the schedule for next year.

  16. All 3 of mine clean up after themselves after each meal or snack, everyone gets a turn daily sweeping the kitchen floor, they fold and put away own laundry, each vacuum his/her own bedroom weekly, daily make beds, they all take turns taking out the trash and rolling the cans to the curb, cleaning up the inside of vehicles including vacuuming and washing the outside, wiping the bathroom sinks after use...... I think that's about it. We don't use a chart but they just know that I expect them to find something that needs to be done and do it. If the dishwasher is ready to be loaded they need to load it; if it's ready to unload they need to unload it. Mine are 10, 8 and 7.
