  1. Ok - I'm sure I'm making this harder than it really needs to be but for those of you with more than one child (studying the same thing at the same time) how do you do narration? I have two 1st grade girls (one is my dd and one is being homeschooled here with us) My dd is quite a bit more advanced that the other girl (they are 7 & 6 years old respectively) but in several subjects (History, FLL, Science...) they are studying together. I've been running into problems, especially with history. When we finish our lesson and get to the part where they narrate to me what it is they lesson was about I feel like everything falls apart. If I ask my daughter to narrate first, the other girl will simply repeat everything she can remember dd saying. If the other girl goes first, it can literally take 45 minutes for her to recall even the smallest bit of information. What am I doing wrong? When they narrate to me, I should be guiding them to keep it short & sweet (a couple of sentences) right? They say it, and I write it? Am I totally missing the boat on this narration thing? Christall
  2. until I figured out how to do that, I NEVER got the 2nd sock finished... so I literally have a drawer full of mismatched socks because I never made a mate! If you want the instructions, email me and let me know... it's tricky the first time, but after that it's a piece of cake! My favorite sock yarn is Austermann's Step yarn - it has aloe in the yarn and while you're knitting it your hands feel so soft and wearing them is even more heavenly. Enjoy - sock knitting is my "therapy" Christall
  3. My daughter was being schooled in a private christian school until three weeks ago. We withdrew her for several reasons - one being that she was spending 3/4 of the day sitting and doing nothing because she was ahead of what the class was learning - the other reason was her teacher YELLED at them many, MANY times during the day... So, here we are 3 weeks into homeschooling and I am feeling so overwhelmed. I have read First Language Lessons & the well-trained mind book and the philosophy is one that matches my personal philosophy very closely but my question is where/how to start. At my daughters previous school they used Singapore Math as the curriculum and both she and I enjoyed it. I have purchased the books that more closely align with her ability and things are moving along quite nicely. As for the rest of the curriculum, I have no idea what to do or where to start. She's reading at about a 4th grade level, so we've just been reading book after book (she finished black beauty in 3 days!) but I truly have no idea where to begin for everything else. Any suggestions? Ideas? I really appreciate your thoughts, Christall
