  1. I do and I LOVE it! My kids do too. We are huge hunters so its just natural that we do. DH collects guns also so we have a variety. I have shot handguns, rifles, and plenty of shotguns. Currently on my Christmas list is a Walther P22 which is a semi automatic pistol :D

All are of course unloaded and locked seperately and keys well hidden. But my kids are also taught from early on about gun safety and handling. My DH quizzes them all the time. I was a city girl so my mom is a little weary, but here in the country...its life.

  2. Congrats! What did you end up ordering? ;)

I ordered...Math Mammoth, FLL3 wkbk and TG, WWE2, SOTW 1..AG, paperback and audi CD, Elemental Chem, SW C, and ZB cursive. I got the HOP deal for for K-2. I think that was all LOL. I scoured and found as many of the books as I could used or new for as cheap as I could get them.

I have been scouring thrift stores and have found a bunch of extras. Usborne Internet Linked Science encyclopedia for $1 being one of them :) Also found some fun workbooks for the 2 and 4 year old. I have the Leap Frog learning DVD, letters, and a few games. My aunt gave me a full set of World Book Encyclopedias with the yearbooks and dictionary and all. I was soo excited.

  3. I let my picky eaters choose 2 items from each category that they get to not eat ever. 2 fruits 2 veggies 2 breakfast, lunches and dinners. I wrote it out and they signed it. My DH and I made one too. Things not on the list they must take 2 bites of. If they choose not to eat the rest of it it is NO snacks the rest of the day and they only get to eat again at meals. has been working FABULOUS!!

  4. ALL of my curriculum for my very first year of HS'ing. Well except Science but my printer is out of paper (just bought a laser with my bday money :)) and I am ordering Elemental Chem pdf. which I know I can download and the print later, but that will drive me crazy and so I am waiting until I get my paper (I know, weirdo right? LOL)

And I did it all for under $200 (including science). Thats for a 3rd grader, K4, and a 2 year old. Sidenote- (I already had the Leap Frog magnetic letters with the little holder that sings the letters on the frige...I was cleaning out my basement and found the letters DVD! Cannot for the life of me remember buying it, but woohoo! The boys watched it today and loved it. Preschool is just gonna be sooo cheap and sooo fun!)

I ordered the HOP K-2 for $36 and the rest of K4 is going to be all FREE :-) I am closely following TWTM for DD7. I CANNOT wait to get it all and start planning. We are starting JULY 5th!!!!

Thanks for listening to my ramble. It is all so real to me now, with stuff ordered, money put into it, and a start date!! :001_smile:

  5. Yep. 3 times with pitocin (my babies never want to come out)

The contractions for me were super strong from beginning to end. (from what I read and my doc told me these are usually stronger than natural ones) I have a super high pain threshold though. The nurses are always amazed that I am talking and laughing up til about the last 5 mins :001_smile:

I still had quick labors (4hrs, 3hrs, 2 hrs) and only 2 to 3 pushes til they popped out. The third one was the worst because I was having back labor, but it was doable.

    Good Luck!!

  6. I am struggling with the exact two issues you talked about!!!!

I have lost 60 lbs and so has my friend. I get annoyed when people notice hers and not mine. I am doing this solely for my health ( I will never be "skinny" and fit in a bikini or anything like that) so why do i give a rip if people notice?

I also am struggling with the sports. We also hunt, fish, do archery, hike, starting piano....We are constantly doing things as a family and yet I feel the need to put my DD in soccer especially since we are starting HS. She didnt really have an opinion on it either way when she played last year and says she doesnt care if she plays now, so why should I bother to waste the money? because i think people will think she is never getting to see kids her age (like they talk on the soccer field)

Its hard enough wondering what people are thinking about us HS'ing (there is only one other family in our town of 4,000 that does) and I keep running all my answers as to the "why question" in case we get asked. UGH why do i waste my time? My DD is so excited about it she is telling everyone, and I try and avoid it at all costs. I need to get over this and just get confident. I have a supportive husband and parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles cousins and friends. God laid it on my heart to do all this.........that should all be enough!!

    :grouphug: to us all.

  7. I searched this subject but all posts were pretty old. In WTM they suggest third graders use 1/2" lined paper.

Did this size work for your 3rd grader (mine already knows cursive but needs practice) and if so where do you buy your paper at? or do you print it off the computer? (I have a laser printer so I dont mind printing it out) I really dont want to mess with Startwrite. TIA!

  8. That looks great. It seems you are sticking closely to WTM. (I LOVE WTM by the way). Will you be starting Latin this year
So far WTM has totally clicked and so we are going to follow it as close as possible this first year.

I really want to start latin. DD would like to start French and my DH wants to learn Spanish alongside her LOL. We havent settled on this yet. After I get our normal schedule down we will discuss and pick one :D

It looks like you have an excellent year planned.

I am not sure what language you were interested in starting but we use the Elementary Spanish program on Discovery Education and love it. It is completely independent so your dd can do it while you work a bit with your younger dd.

Also I just wanted to encourage you as you start on this journey. It looks like you have done much prep and put much thought into a fantastic year for your girls. Don't be discouraged if something you choose turns out not to be a good fit for you and/or your dc. It happens...a lot. Just push through with modifications (always my first choice before spending more money on a new curriculum) and if that fails come back here and find out what else might be out there. :)

Best wishes on an amazing year for you all!

THANK YOU! I am totally preparing myself for things to not work well. I picked as closely to WTM as I could to start. I am going to give it a 6 week try and then reevalute as needed. I needed to start somewhere or or I would go back and forth forever. I really feel that this forum is a wonderful back up for me and I am truly not scared anymore!! :)

Your program looks really good and thorough.

The only thing I see is that WWE3 is often too hard for 3rd graders who haven't completed the previous books. Of course, you know your child best and it may be perfect for her! But the WWE skills build, and I couldn't have started my 3rd grader into WW3.

Best wishes! Hope you have a terrific year!

Thank you for pointing this out. I was debating starting in WWE2. I think I may just go ahead and order WWE2. I was kind of scared she would get totally turned off by it so maybe I will start easier on her. I left room for error, but have very limited funds so I am nervous to waste money. :)

Debating starting a foreign language. we'll see how things go. I am sure we are swamped, but DD really wants to do this. I may just order somthing and let her do it on her free time.

    Pre k (2 and 4 yr old DS's)

Nothing serious. I will focus on getting through my first year with my DD :)

I have HOP, Leap Frog dvd's, I See Sam books, and some simple pre k math workbooks. I like the letter of the day site and I may work on that.

We will just start on learning letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and do nature studies. Will be READING READING READING and I am sure they will join in on History and Science with DD.

I am soooo excited and can't wait to order everything and get started on my planner!!!!

  10. :bigear: I will be starting my first year with DD7, DS4, DS2, and 2 newborns I will be babysitting :001_huh: I would love to know how all the big families do it.

From reading some other threads I think you need to be either super organized or super relaxed. I am super organized, but I wont be able to have an exact time schedule with the babies. So I plan to have a list of "must-do's", "hope to do's", and "can skips." I am going to lay out a monthy HS plan, but just by material I want covered, not by time constraints. Once I get to know the newborns I can come up with a better schedule. I will be starting DD7 in July and going year round so that I do not have to as heavy a load during the school year (I watch teachers kiddos)

  11. I have 3 kids under the age of 7 and me and my hubby dont need date nights. We cannot afford/ nor do we know of a babysitter that I can trust. We probably go on one or two a year if my mom is in town. Other than that we are together 24/7 and we are together a few hours in the evening when the kids are asleep and we are doing great. 7 years of marriage and we have great communication. :D

  12. I want my catalog too.... how long did they say it would take to ship?

You kknow I didnt even bother to look! I could be setting up for huge disappointment if its like 6-8 weeks :lol::lol:

All this reading and curriculum searching and planning has got me all crazy like ;)

  13. Ok, I FINALLY got my WTM book :D I am reading the section on grammar for my third grader and I am confused. Maybe it will clear up the more I read, but I am taking notes and I cannot get past this.

They mention FLL and basically make it seem that it should only be used for 1st and 2nd grade.

It says that for 3rd and 4th they recommend I should either get R&S English or Voyages in English for grammar.

From what I read on this board previously I thought that they recommended FLL3 for grammar? I am totally confused now.

  14. I would move, my DH wont. Him and his grandpa built this house and garage and sheds. We raise deer and it would be extremely hard to move them. Its almost finacially impossible right now. I could throw all that to the wind and go no matter what but DH is hard to convince of any change. It would have to be them actually following through with a threat to get Dh to go I think. Which is not ideal..................

  15. My advice is to move as far away from them as possible. Seriously.

I so would. DH so won't. I am stuck here. For now, I want to just try and keep all my ducks in a row and follow the law.

I also don't want them to think they have that kind of control over us. We know we are good, Godly, loving parents and that no one could ever prove that we have done any harm to our kids. I just dread having to defend myself or waste money we dont have on a lawyer. Right now we are standing ground.

I guess as long as I ignore them as much as possible, and get DH to do the same I will be doing all I can. plus a ton of prayer.

  16. Yes--many of us share this same sort of nerdiness. I myself was moved to glare at the mailman's departing back because another day has gone in which he did NOT bring me the new Rainbow Resource catalog. . .

I am sooo waiting for that baby to arrive too!!! The suspense is killing me

  17. In *this* case, I would have limited or eliminated contact before now due to toxicity but the OP seemed to still have some relationship with them and expectation of interaction.

If it were totally up to me, I would move away and never look back. My DH on the other hand, has a hard time with this. His grandpa raised him and he is all he has. Grandpa doesn't get involved in the family issues one way or another. So my we allow him to see and talk to the kids on occasion. My DH has a very hard time in keeping his mouth shut about things. He doesnt mean to let a lot of info out, but he does. We will just have to have a really good talk about all this and see what to do.

I know there is no way we can 100% cut them out as long as we live here. And my Dh will not move. I will just try and drill in his head that the kids come first no matter what. So long as we live here, he will have to keep his mouth shut!
