  1. It's not just plurals that are problematic. My son used to have an Old Navy t-shirt that said "give me the snacks and nobody get's hurt!"

I have been noticing it more and more, I do think it's becoming more common especially in printed ads and flyers. I find it quite annoying - I can understand abbreviations and general laziness but why add something in that shouldn't be there? It's just sheer ignorance of simple grammar rules, and either a lack of self-awareness or a lack of caring enough about the project to have it proofread. (I am obviously referring to printed ads and flyers here, not message board postings).

I also think the prevalence of the problem is adding to it. Young people are getting used to seeing horrible grammar and can no longer recognize mistakes. Between texting and Facebook, and not reading real books good grammar and spelling is disappearing.

  2. I would love your recipe! Every time I've tried- it crumbles :(

I use a recipe I found online a few years ago.

    6tbsp coconut oil

    1/4 cup baking soda

    1/4 cup cornstarch

10 drops of essential oils (I use a blend of lavender and tea tree oil)

If it is too irritating try it with less baking soda.

  3. You should double check this, but I know a few years ago, you could get a roll of film developed and only pay for the pictures that come out. For example if they are too dark to see anything or a big blur you can take them out of the envelope and only pay for the ones you take home.

  4. Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. I know my son is smart but sometimes I do feel like I have failed him. I will share the story of Edison with him. He has heard about him and learned about his inventions, but I don't think we have learned about his struggles early in school.

After looking at the AAR sample I think I will go with that one and maybe give spelling a break for now. He has come to hate dictation that I used with SWR.

    Thanks again, Merry.

  5. My son is 9 years old and has been struggling to learn how to read for several years now. He has dyslexia. I have used SWR and Phonics Pathways with him. He can read short vowel sounds and simple consonant blends. He now hates reading and fights me to do reading lessons.

I think I have been using the some old curriculums for too long with out moving forward and now we need a change. I was thinking about using All about spelling with him. I think the hands on and new books might be fun for him.

I can't decide if we need to do both AAR and AAS. I am leaning more towards just using AAS because it is very similar to SWR. I need to get this boy reading. Has given up learning how to read and depends on his big brother to read everything for him. Also, do I need to start on level one with both programs? Thanks for any insight.
