  1. Just a few days back into this and I sabotaged myself. My husband's work had a movie night with pizza and popcorn. I knew going into this evening that I needed to eat well before hand so that I would be full before I sat in a room full of junk. Of course kids were rowdy and I didn't have time to make myself dinner before we went. So I grabbed a bunless burger on the way (and resisted the temptation of ordering fries :) ) The burger didn't fill me up enough so I was having horrible cravings at the movie night. I ended up eating a few small pieces of thin crust pizza. I was still low enough on carbs for the day that I was still under 50 to end the day but I know that it's only going to create more cravings tomorrow since I gave in and had some grains for the first time in 4 days. But it was either eat some meat loaded thin crust pizza or find myself gorging on the pile of chocolate they had there. At least I resisted the pile of Reeses peanut butter cups which are my all time favorite candy.

  2. Thanks for posting that. I guess I will just have to plan ahead for dinner to avoid things with carbs if I want a salad at lunch. I love a big salad at lunch - today's was a huge bowl of spring mix with peppers, broccoli, bacon and cauliflower along with a couple of roasted chicken thighs It was 20 something carbs  which is fine if I wasn't planning a veggie heavy dinner.

  3. Larla - What does your daily veggie amounts look like with that low of carbs? I'd like to keep my carbs lower but my salads keep raising my carb levels higher than I would like. I could cut down the amount of bell peppers I eat but I love them and they are one of my favorite toppings for my salad.

  4. I liked the design of the Kura bed but wasn't happy when I saw how much the one at Ikea rocked/creaked when a couple of kids climbed up on top. We ended up using plans from ana white.com to build our own version of the beds. They are rock solid and cost about $20 more than buying them from IKEA. (We used metal pieces to support the wood slats so that increased the price some) I've climbed up on top with my 7 year old and it doesn't even sag.

  5. I use myfitnesspal. I would love to use fitday but they don't have an android app and I know that having it on the go with me will keep me in check on busy days when I'm out of the house. Otherwise I tend to eat a bite of this a bite of that without recording it and it adds up very fast!

  6. I don't have to keep my almost 4 yo boy occupied long since I have smaller kids and school doesn't take us long but things that will keep him occupied for awhile.

    Letter mats and playdoh

    Lightbright

Lauri Alphabet puzzles and number puzzles

    Gears

Balance scale and bears and a whole bag full of odd things to weigh

    Magic School Bus DVDs

Playing on my laptop - Starfall or PBS kids

I also tend to keep a few things that can be done on the go for the end of our time so that way if he is really wild we can take some of our seatwork outside and do it on the deck while he plays.

  7. I've been back on very low carb, moderate protein and high fat for 8 weeks now. As of today, I've lost 20 lbs and am back in my size 6 jeans.

I'm going to go another 10 weeks and see where that takes me before starting maintainence.

    :hurray: - Way to go!

I finally figured out why my fat levels seemed so low but I was so satisfied. Looked at the recipe in myfitnesspal and I had put the chicken in wrong. So I was eating skin on chicken thighs and it was hardly giving me any protein or fat for it over the last 3 days  That's what I get for quickly logging food from my phone and not looking at it on the computer.

    So for today I ended up at 1600 calories 46 g carbs/ 119fat / 100 protein.

  8. Can you do spaghetti squash in place of the pasta? I've done that before and it is yummy, I really like it. :)

I've never tried spaghetti squash. I've always been incredibly picky about foods only eating things that I knew I liked. The past two years I've finally been trying new foods. I've just gotten to the point where I actually like squash/zucchini with lots of butter and garlic. It may be time to branch out from just plain yellow squash.

  9. It's mainly the pastas/Italian food that does me in. Almost everything else I make I can turn into a lettuce wrap etc. My kids ask for Lasagna at least every other week, DH likes pasta with butter and cheese as a quick meal etc. It's the nights that I'm not making a protein or it's totally mixed into their food that I have trouble. They all want pasta at least once a week.

I think I'm just going to have to plan separate meals for me on those nights. Hopefully once I feel better I will have time to make some food for the freezer that I can pull out for those nights. Right now since I'm just starting back into this my whole house is full of stuff I shouldn't eat.

  10.

Heavy whipping cream. Too many benefits of green/superfood to list.... Not being snarky, but google it :) Its optimum nutrition, for sure! As for protein shakes, just use it with water and 1-2T heavy cream- no need to make a shake.

Thanks for posting this! I think I'll order some and try it.

  11. I'll have to remember to get some sunflower seeds next time I run to the store. I have some almonds but I've been avoiding them because they are salted and that just triggers my cravings for something sweet. Maybe I'll have some of those tonight on my way to bed so I'm not tempted to get into the pantry for something else. I've got bacon defrosting for tomorrow so hopefully I'll have enough taste back tomorrow to enjoy some egg muffins with bacon for breakfast.

One of my other problems is that I don't like hot drinks. I only drink water and unsweet iced tea.

Does anyone have any good ideas of quick to fix meals for nights when I'm cooking something non low carb for my family? Tonight I'm making spaghetti with meat sauce, so I plan on just taking some of the ground beef out before I add the sauce and eat that seasoned with a whole plate full of veggies. My family has so many meals that aren't low carb friendly and my DH won't go low carb with me and always wants those meals.

  12. I've been slowly ramping up my fat and I'm at about 80 grams a day. I don't feel hungry but I know that in a few more days as my body starts burning more fat I will need to add more or I will go on a carb binge when my body starts thinking it's starving.

I completely forgot about how when I was lc the last time all my hand pain went away. Today is day 3 and for the first time in 6 months I woke up without my hands aching. I could open a jar without asking DH to help.

I'm still trying to find some ways to up my calories and fat. I'm not hungry so eating more fat/protein is a struggle. It doesn't help that I have had a cold this week so I've been sleeping tons and not doing much.

  13. My first day went well but I'm having a hard time keeping my calories up. I was barely at 1100 calories. I had 32 grams of carbs, 79 fat and 62 protein. I know I need to up my protein more because I'm just above.5 gram per lean body mass which was the minimum that Marks Daily Apple suggested.

Even with the low calories I wasn't hungry yesterday but today I'm in a fog after eating breakfast. I'm not sure if it is lack of caffeine that is driving the fog. I'm going to get some unsweet tea and see if that helps. I know if I don't get my calories up today I will binge tomorrow or the day after.

  14. I'm back on the LCHF wagon as of today. I did great last year and dropped 14 lbs and a lot of inches in my midsection doing LCHF for 6 months. Then life/stress happened and I gained it all back over the next 6 months stress eating. Exactly one year ago I was the same weight and exact same measurements as I am today. :(

Today was my first day doing all low carb and amazingly I've resisted the temptation to snack on junk - which we have a lot of around the house because we just came home from a road trip to Disney World.

  15. Mine are like that whenever I wear earring for the first time after an extended time of not wearing them. If they are good Sterling Silver than I coat them in antibiotic ointment before I put them in. If they are cheaper earring then I do the clear coat of nail polish and the ointment. After a week or so I can have them in without the ointment.

  16. My DS is just finishing book 8. We went straight through. Now that I have been through the other books I wish that we would have skipped 4, done 5 and 6 first. Book 4 was just too frustrating for DS at the time.

DD is in K and is almost done with book 3. We will definitely be skipping book 4 and doing 5 and 6 first.

  17. I do two review with my 5 year old but only because she taught herself to read so I have certain things that need to be covered more often to fix things she taught herself incorrectly. She was reading when we weren't in the room so we think she was reading for 3-4 months before we ever knew that she could. When I do review a lesson we aren't going through a whole lesson again. I mark words that she had trouble with the first time that we went through the lesson so I will go back to that word or sentence and have her do it again. Then go to another lesson that is marked that she had trouble with. My book has about 10 post it notes marking lessons that need review at any given time.

  18. I have an engagement ring that is soldered to my jacket wrap/wedding band. I wear them everyday. The only times I take it off is if I'm making something messy in the kitchen or if I eat chinese food for dinner and know that my hands are going to swell overnight. I also have a plain thin gold band because we were moving to Florida after our wedding and I wanted something simple that I could wear on the beach and out fishing etc. So now I wear all three bands stacked on top of each other.

  19. I voted Other on the first one.

I love talking to select family members (mom and brother) and a handful of friends on the phone - I'm on the phone with family or friends about an hour everyday. Somedays longer when my brother calls me on his long commute home.

For anything else I hate talking on the phone. Calling businesses on the phone makes me shaky and having to be confrontational on the phone has me in tears.
