  1. Has anyone used this with a middle schooler or highschooler? Do you know if you can jump into book 2 if they do have writing experience?
  2. No, I am only going by the samples I see online. What grades does your friend use them for?
  3. My girls really enjoy these. They have found them to be a breathe of fresh air coming away from Sonlight. Currently we use them for History and Science. Has anyone used Lifepacs for Language arts 7th grade and up. I would supplement with Wordly Wise, and PP guides. Just wondering if anyone has used them for highschool LA
  4. Has anyone used WS with their highschooler? Is it ALL you really need? I was considering using it alongside our Notgrass World History studies this year
  5. Has anyone used both volumnes in one year? How did it go or NOT go???
  6. If you have used SOTW any book with activity guides, does it give suggestions for history reports, essays or papers to incorporate into your schedule?
  7. There were seveal threads going on at the SL boards which were suggesting a huge lack of Lit Analysis in the upper cores. That and people were less than thrilled with the way the IG's were set up, so I thought i'd stay clear of that
  8. Okay, Not sure what to do about this self-inflicted "dilema" We want to use either Notgrass or Beautiful Feet for highschool Since both are "all in one" programs, meaning history, lit, and some writing, what do you do about Lit analysis? I understand some companies such as Sonlight don't "believe" in lit analysis and that reading great literature should be enough. Do any of you agree with this? My dd has gone to public school since 8th grade going into 10th so I assume she has some lit analysis already, but do any of you use these programs above and add another lit analysis program on top of them or just trust and have faith in the curriculum? If I added another lit program such as Light Lit or LLATL gold, I feel it would just be too much. We want to enjoy these last years and use a history lit program. Thanks, anxiously awaiting replies, since I need to order soon!
  9. Can you tell me which ones of the above you'd use for Govt./econ? Which one is your favorite and why?
  10. Without the IG's?? I am looking at all the book lists etc...and wondering if you can do this without the IG's by creating your own schedule, etc..
  11. Thanks for the replies, we have decided upon Sonlight Core 4 and 7!
  12. I really am staring to panic. I have 2 girls who have always pretty much done abeka. They are going into 7th and 10th grades. We need a break from Abeka and I have so far purchased: 7th grade ACE science LLATL Tan Saxon 8/7 10th grade: Ace Biology LLATL Gold American and wordsmith craftsman Algebra one with Saxon I cannot decide on history!! It is driving me nuts. I'd like to "try" Sonlight, however my younger one is NOT a big reader. I am also afraid of using Sonlight because I do not want to be stressed out this year. I want things simple, streamlined and with all those books I already feel overwhelmed. My older dd wants a lit program though, so I was thinking of Core 7 since she needs World History and has already read most of the Core 6 books this summer. I am afraid that if we use SL though we wont have time for LLATL and Craftsman and she is not a math student so it takes her up to 2 hours a day on one Saxon lesson. Again, I don't want to be overwhelmed with our day. I easily get stressed out if I feel we are behind. So I need a history program. Thinking of Lifepacs, ACE or notgrass. I like the looks of Sonlight, but again, it seems very time consuming.. Any advice?
  13. Thanks, I don't have forum access yet, because I have to wait a couple of weeks to purchase. I was thinking of adding in Wordsmith Craftsman. Are you going to be doing the SL writing with IEW? Are you adding in any other lit analysis or just SL books?
  14. My 10th grader got to see Notgrass and she wants to use Sonlight. I agree with her and think it's the "books". Yes, the books that Sonlight uses which seems to make history come alive. So now about English. Those of you who use Sonlight do you use the writing portions or do you add anythig to it? As far as lit analysis, I don't think with all the Sonlight reading we will be able to add anything else in such as LLATL gold or Lightning lit. Will that be okay? Does SL have ANY lit analysis as far as basic terms taught etc..? Our plan is to do Core 7, 100 and then 300 with a govt course thrown in! Thanks!
  15. I am still undecided whether to use SL or Notgrass. I don't have full forum access yet at SL so I thought i'd ask it over here For those of you who have used SL for highschool and were successful with it, what did you do as far as Lit analysis? Did you add any in, or was SL enough and you did not worry about it? One of my sons would be using Core Alt7 for 10th grade (he did BJU geography for 9th) up till then we used Abeka and various other things. So for 10th grade he's use Alt7, then move on to 100 and either 300 or 400. Wish we had time for all the upper cores, but we don't. So did you add any lit analysis such as Light LIt or LLATL Gold series. I don't think I could do that, it would be too overwhelming for him I'd appreciate your guidance
  16. Umm...you better go read some of the recent threads over at the SL boards or some here regarding SL for highschool. The IG's for upper cores have many MANY people frustrated and complaining to SL. Apparently it is NOT open and go and people are beyond frustrating. Go to the "dear sonlight" board at the forums and see for yourself
  17. I got wind of some of the complaints. What I am afraid with SL besides there not being a "real world" history course is of too much reading and not enough history taught. Have you used SL for highschool?
  18. My dd is entering 10th grade and needs a good solid year of World, American and Govt. She loves to read and does not like textbook ie: Abeka or BJU. Which of these two do you prefer? Notgrass or Sonlight. I love the books in Sonlight, but don't like the fact that there is no "real" world history unless I had her do Alt 7. Can you gives me pros and cons of both programs?
  19. Thank you all, this is very encouraging! Now I am torn between BJU and Notgrass! The notgrass new middle school program looks excellent! May use that for 8th grade, then use BJU for 9th, geography, and then decide between Notgrass and BJU! Decisions, decisions!
