I'm all ears to hear how it may be done! :bigear:

I just placed my first TOG order (Year 1) over the weekend. I can't WAIT until it gets here!
Best wishes for a great year!

I've heard this, too, about the older versions, but I've learned that Sonlight has revamped these in the last year or so. They are intended to follow Ruth Beechick's philosphy of copywork and dictation.
Anyone use the new LA guides that can shed light on how much (if any) the guides have changed in quality?
Thanks so much for all the replies!

Some great info here!

I've decided to use Sonlight 6 for our history next year, and I'm considering using their LA and/or Science as well. I've never used a "one-source" curriculum provider before, usually piecing together my favorites programs and using or creating guides separately from history. BUT, I would love to have a "pick-up-and-go" with teacher notes and worksheet pages ready to go. However, I would only want this as long as the other programs are strong themselves.
For what it's worth, I have considered TOG, but have unfortunately had to rule it out because of the cost factor. I already own most of the history and science books that are in the Sonlight 6 packages, so that will reduce my costs substantially.
Any words of advice on how challenging, interesting (for kids), and easy to implement the science and LA guides might be? I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has used the Research Paper guide written by John Holzmann. This is one area my 11dd REALLY needs to start working on.
Thanks, in advance, for taking the time to read my question and respond!

and it was a wonderful curriculum. Some of my favorite homeschooling memories were using this. Have a great time with it!

Sounds like this book is a winner from your dc's recommendation!

I'm interested in CLE Science 4 or Science 5 for my 4th grader next year. His sister will be doing Apologia General Science, and this will be the first time that I am choosing to let them do science independently of each other.
I like the scope and sequence of both CLE 4 and 5 in that they are general "surveys" of science much like the Apologia General Science. But I can't find any sample pages anywhere to let me see some of the content.
Any information will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lisa

I'll be sure to check it out!

I need to pick up a few things to be ready for this school year, and I'd prefer not to pay shipping. Any great stores you know of anywhere around here?
Thanks,

If one were compiling a library of pertinant reference books, what would you recommend? (not theory books, but how-tos for basic skills)
One that my dh and I have been reading is "Back to Basics" by Abigail R. Gehring. It is a fabulous how-to-do book for ALL kinds of homesteading and preparedness concerns. I heartily recommend it!

Dh lost months his job last October and still has not found full-time work. We have only made it for the last 6 months with dh's IT consulting work he had just started part-time last year, right before he was laid off from his full-time job.
We only moved into our home 2 years ago, and unfortunately bought it close to top dollar. We will be LUCKY to sell it and not OWE any money to the bank. We don't hold much hope at all of selling and getting back any of our down payment. Right now we are just looking for a way to get out of our house payment obligations and not go through foreclosure. We really do not want to suffer the damage to our credit rating, because we will eventually need to buy another home somewhere.
We have a nice house, and a great yard, but only 4 showings in the last 4 months. This is NOT a good sign for what used to be a great real estate market in Atlanta area.
We would appreciate your prayers for our home to sell quickly and at a decent price.
Thank you.

We came on board the LOST fan-wagon late---not until this past summer when we borrowed a friend's sets of the first 3 seasons on DVD. My husband and I watched all 3 seasons in about 3 weeks then started on season 4 downloads from the internet. I've gone back and watched all 4 seasons a second time since then. I can't wait!
I'm off to join the LOST social group!

Someone on this board posted a fantastic link a couple of years ago of a map that showed an animation/automation growth of Islam and Christianity (maybe other religions too) from their beginnings. It showed each religion in different colors, and it was fascinating to see the changes over the last thousands of years.
Does this ring a bell to anyone? I would LOVE to see this again!!!
Thanks in advance for your help!

It is solid color---ivory---with soft curved accents and very lovely. It holds up so well, too. I've had my set for over 15 years now, and not a piece is broken!

What color product do you use?
I've been coloring my own hair for the last several years, but I need to do something different. I'm hoping to start the curly girl routine in full force (avoiding shampoo altogether instead of shampooing one-a-week now), but I HAVE to color my hair first.
Do you have an inexpensive but good solution that I can do myself? If I must visit a salon, can you recommend any reasonably-priced chains who do decent work? And what kind of color product should I ask for?
I read the information in the Curly Girls book, but it only says to use semi-permanent or demi-permanent color. I'm sure some products are better than others.
Help!!!
Thanks,
Lisa

If our government can spend BILLIONS to bailout failing financial institutions, then SURELY it can figure out a way to produce a FREE photo ID to every LEGAL American living in our county. If people want to vote badly enough, they will find a way to get to wherever they need to go to acquire this photo ID. I do not buy the argument that requiring a photo ID will disenfranchise voters. Even with the current options available to acquire a photo ID, it is not an unreasonable request. If people want something badly enough, they will find a way to get it.
Having an organization (any organization) go around and do all the legwork required to get people registered to vote is just a way to buy those votes. Who would you expect them to vote for?
It just seems to me that many people nowadays just sit back an wait for others (often the government) to give them what they should be willing to work for themselves. We have created a society that no longer expects to have to work for anything. When times are hard, we should expect to have to work harder to make ends meet. That's the nature of life, the nature of hardships that build strong, honorable character.
We have only to look at the current social climate of our nation today to see that we have been "bottle-fed" long enough. We need to start cutting our teeth on some "meat" and grow up a bit.

My 2nd and 4th graders are doing book 1 this year, and it's my 2nd grader's favorite subject!

I just ordered The Last Resort bra from TitleNine. I can't wait to get it!

Umm, I don't think it's who she is voting for that is getting the low star rating. For me, it's making this announcement it's *own thread* with a subject line that makes it look like something everyone would want to read. I'm just not interested in who Colleen (or anyone else) is voting for and it was off-putting to open this thread and see what the big announcement was.
Just so you don't fell like you're dangling all by your lonesome on this, I had a similar reaction.
Are we the only ones who dont start school until the end of August/ September??
