  1. We also watched this yesterday with DD 16. It lead to a meaningful discussion. It was a very good movie, but I would think it a bit too mature for your DDs ages.

We just watched Amazing Grace yesterday (got it from our local library). That was really good!

I'd also love some more movies on this topic!

  2. This is our strategy as well. I suffered over this, but finally came to the conclusion there really was no other option.  Trying to push DC forward without a firm foundation is pointless and frustrating. Best wishes! :001_smile:

Thanks everyone for your help but I actually think I have answered my own question after reading some of Regentrude's posts on the subject.  I am going to focus on solid pre-algebra and thorough understanding of algebra 1 no matter what that takes and then see where we are.  I know that my own struggles with upper level math were because I lacked a good foundation and moved on too quickly.  Thanks for allowing me to have a panic moment.

  3. My family lives in tornado country and we dropped our landline in May after being without service for four weeks. This was not the first time this had happened. AT&T sent out a tech who told us their line was decrepit but they didn't want to replace it. We live in an older neighborhood in which many services such as sewers etc. are being replaced. We chose Consumer Cellular through AARP and couldn't be happier! DD, DH, and I all have phones plus our security system is monitored for less than we paid with AT&T. No looking back or problems.

  4. Hello ~

My DD started out using Chemistry: Concepts and Problems: A Self-Teaching Guide by Houk, but it just didn't click. So we switched to  The Extraordinary Chemistry of Ordinary Things, Fourth Edition (Thank you Moria in Maine!), along with Fascinating Chemistry (http://fascinatingeducation.com/fascinating-chemistry-2/ ), and Landry Academy labs. In addition, we are supplementing with Chemistry 101, Culinary Reactions: The Everyday Chemistry of Cooking,  Science Matters: Achieving Scientific Literacy, and science encyclopedias,  This new combination is really working and we will continue with a spine, Fascinating Biology, Biology 101,  supplementary reading and labs at home next year.

    Hope this helps,

    Dina

  5. I'm supposed to be retired from WTM, but I am interested in any responses you might get. My ds is doing an extra year (although, we won't call it that on his transcript) and I'm trying to figure this particular subject out, too!

We are also using textbooks for pretty much everything else.  Gotta love the used bookstore.

    Robin

I hope you don't retire Robin, I have learned a great deal from your posts and enjoy your questions. :001_smile:

  6. Thanks so much  for the recommendations! DH was able to limp our old one along yesterday, so I didn't end up having to make a quick purchase. :tongue_smilie:  However, we will be making it VERY soon and are in the process of researching each recommendation. We certainly appreciate your responses.

BTW: Repair is not an option as parts are no longer made for our current model.

  7. INTERESTING!!! After researching, I found LG rates high on "BEST" lists, but when looking at user reviews, the reviews are at both ends of the scale in large numbers. Seems people LOVE them or HATE them. The complains about LG are related to leaks, control problems, and poor customer service. LG was my initial choice but will compare a few more. Our current washer is a GE and lasted 14 years but they don't seem to rate quite as highly now although the technology has changed greatly since then.

Off to check out a few more of your recommendations...please keep them coming!!! Thanks
