When you say 'can't, do you mean that even eating very little still doesn't bring weight loss?  Or do you mean they are unable to control their appetite?

If you truly want to understand then read The Obesity Code.

A typical lunch for me is deli turkey, some type of cheese, and raspberries. I recently discovered I like havarti cheese. Maybe I'll get some more of that. I"ve been eating cheese sticks, half mozzarella and half cheddar, but they're low calorie.

I would suggest you add a little bit of carbs to this. If you add a slice of bread or a few crackers your insulin will go up and that will help you to gain weight.

Wait hold on... did I read the same link? Did they update it after you posted? The article said it's not about vibrators...

" At no time have I ever lent credence to a rumor that the song was inspired by anything other than Eddie Grant’s Electric Avenue "

Yeah, it’s saying it was updated.

Huh? Could you elaborate on the bolded?

If I don't save the money but spend it, I don't have it when I need to purchase xyz big ticket item. How else would be a better way? (If I put it on a cc card now, I have to save later to make the payments, so the saving gets just deferred)

I’m just guessing, but I wonder if she means saving for a specific thing. She gave the example of saving for a stove but she’s going to end up using that money for car repairs.

We don’t save for specific things, we just have money in our checking/savings accounts that could cover appliances, car repairs, etc.

  5. I had a Shark steam mop, I returned it. I hated it, it left my floors streaky (my whole house is tile) and took 3x as long as using my favorite mop.

If you want to try one I would buy it at bed bath and beyond because you could return it there if you don’t like it.

I object to an adult-style bikini sold in the girls' section. And that particular suit starts in a size 4! It would be questionable even in a size 14 IMHO.

If a girl has a childish figure enough to be shopping in the girls' section rather than the juniors' section, the clothes should be appropriate to her life stage. Sexualizing pre-pubescent girls by dressing them in smaller versions of juniors' styles strikes me as icky. '

It’s adult styling why? Because it doesn’t have strawberries or bows or hearts? I would have worn the equivalent of that suit in my small, conservative midwestern town in 1976 (when I was 4) and not have been given a 2nd glance. No one thought it was sexualizing.

Stores used to sell little-girl bikinis that were cute and age-appropriate. We had a Strawberry Shortcake toddler bikini that had wide straps & ruffles on the top and basically the same coverage as a swim diaper on the bottom. Yes, you could see the midriff but it was very clearly a little girl style.

Today's bikinis for little girls typically look like miniature copies of adult bikinis with triangle tops and skimpy bottoms. Totally age-inappropriate and I don't think it's prudish to object to a highly sexualized style on a pre-pubescent child.

ETA: This is the kind of bikini that I think is completely age-inappropriate. It starts in a size 4.

Hmmm, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that suit.

We didn't have water bottles either growing up.  There were just water fountains.  But my son is expected to have a water bottle to school and activities.  I see all the other kids with expensive water bottles.  I did get him a cheap one last time he lost his.  It broke ie. shattered in his hands the next day.

Water bottles are the thing I see the most at the gym lost and found. I’ve had to go digging through there a few times looking for one of our bottles.

In our house it is most likely to be DS that loses things. But at the ballet studio there’s a trash can (kitchen size) in each studio for lost and found and they’re always at least half full and there’s only a handful of boys at our studio. One day I was helping someone look for something and I pulled out a sweatshirt with my DD’s name embroidered on it. We didn’t even know it was missing. Lol

When I was in elementary school the secretary would call me down to the office at least 2-3 times-week to retrieve my glasses that I had left in the bathroom, lunchroom, library, etc.

My two oldest have special needs and whenever they are away from me they have a one-on-one.  So, that person is responsible for their stuff and still, those people lose their things and I have had to remind and look for things myself.  But, that's another story.  I was posting about my 11-year old.  I do think some stuff got stolen from him and other stuff just got lost.  I do encourage him to keep track of his stuff!  He's not the only kid with this problem.  I have gone through lost-and-founds and with the piles of stuff I saw .... there are lots of kids losing stuff.

Absolutely. At our rock climbing gym they empty lost and found every couple months but they always have a huge closet FULL of lost stuff and it’s mostly adults who climb there

There was a family in our co-op where the youngest boy showed up to a field trip at a museum on the Mall with no shoes on. Oops, he said. That kid I can imagine losing his shoes. I think his dad ran to Wal-Mart for a cheap new pair because it was a lot closer than home. My boys on the other hand... I mean, they can temporarily lose their shoes. We once spent an HOUR looking for a single missing shoe at a grandparent's house, unable to go home. They definitely realized it was missing though. I guess that's something.

I can’t even tell you how many times we were driving, halfway to an activity and I would turn around to see that DS didn’t have shoes on. I started keeping a couple pair of flip flops tucked in the car.

That's frustrating.  It will be a long 10 wks.

And I know you were just venting, but I want to encourage you to just keep venting here and extend grace to them. (I'm sure you are) If my child was the victim I would have a hard time getting past it as well. It will take them time to realize how it is coloring their view.  But, yeah, you should not have to hear it every time. It's unfair.

I didn’t get the impression that the victim’s family is the one giving the OP grief. It seems to be other people in the homeschool community.

What are all the dancers doing this summer?

    Regular classes? Intensives?

I don't know anything about dance, as I never did it.  I am hearing different things from other parents and am wondering what you think is best.  Some people of older dancers are taking the summer off, some are going the intensive route.

What camp do you fall into?

We have a 3 week (9am-4pm) intensive at our studio that dd will do (has always done so far). Next year she will likely audition for some other intensives, our director likes the girls to be about 15 before they go away to intensives.

Maybe I need to look for another place

The 13-15 year old girls and boys on average don't dance that much at our school.

I think instruction quality is more important than spending a huge number of hours in class. If my dd took just the required number of classes she would have 8 hours a week. The most committed dancers at our studio probably max out at about 12 hours of classes. Rehearsal times increase a lot as they get older and get more/better parts, most weeks dd has 2-5 hours of rehearsals (for 2-3 months before nutcracker and 2-3 months before our June show).

Is your dancer just taking ballet classes?

    Sorry, I missed this.

My daughter has 5-6 ballet classes (1.5 hours each) per week. She takes 4 at her level and 1 extra class that is 2 levels lower, she does that class en pointe, most weeks she ends up with one of her other classes en pointe too. Then for a couple months of the year she has an extra ballet class at her level to help prepare for exams (RAD). She takes modern and jazz (required at her level) for 1 hour each and she takes an hour of Tap (optional).

We bought a basic dryer 4 1/2 years ago.  We thought, it will dry clothes.  That's all we need.

Well, it doesn't just dry clothes.  It wabs them up into a big ball and then sets in the wrinkles so that you literally can't get them out.  It's remarkable how bad it is.  It felts cotton.  This is not supposed to be possible.  I think the design of the 'tumbling' vanes is wrong or something.  Plus it takes forever to dry things, because they are in that big ball.  Even if I go and pull the ball apart every so often during the drying process, it always takes a long time and sets in wrinkles.  The only thing it is good for is towels and underwear.

So, beware.  There IS such a thing as a bad dryer.  Who knew?

We finally bought a Speed Queen, which works beautifully.  It's the first time in my life that I have replaced a still functioning appliance, and I'd do it again tomorrow.

    Ugh

  16. Our last dryer lasted 10-11 years. It’s matching washing machine is 14 years old but it could kick the bucket any day now. We replaced the water pump in it (ourselves, with Youtube help) about 6 months ago and a couple times in the last 6 weeks it’s had error messages and I’ve had to go through a fixya checklist and give it a shake and both times it eventually worked. But...any day now...

The worst part is trying to decide what to buy to replace it.
