  1. I've been searching for virtual debate clubs for my 13 yo DD, and I've found several online which are costly. I'm ok stretching the budget for a recommended debate club, but I can't differentiate between the various virtual debate clubs. Looking to see if this community has any experience with virtual debate clubs and any recommendations. TIA!
  2. I'm not familiar with IEW Fix it series. For lessons that my son knew, he went through the week's lesson and completed the homework in 30-45 minutes. For a new concept lesson, I spent 45 minutes with him teaching and then 5-10 minutes here and there while he worked through the exercises. I think the 6th grade English program is equivalent to the Beginning Writer Grammar I-IV. For my son, he needs more spiralling on grammar. Lantern English had 1 review lesson after 3 weeks, but the past grammar knowledge is not utilized in future lessons, which is a missed opportunity. I'm looking at Analytical Grammar because my son likes learning grammar through diagramming sentences, and Analytical Grammar incorporates it.
  3. My son did the 6th grade English program last year, and the grammar component was good for the basics. It is good for solidifying what he already knew, but the explanations for new-to-him concepts were not enough for him to grasp. Each week is a new lesson, and a grammar lesson consisted of an explanation and then 3-4 different exercises (i.e., form a sentence using a "verb/noun/prepostion/etc, identify the "verb/noun/preposition/etc", correct the sentence). My son needed more practice on new concepts, so we had to supplement in these areas. I'm looking into a different grammar program this year.
