  1. Trees by Joyce Kilmer

    I think that I shall never see

    A poem lovely as a tree.

    A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed

    Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

    A tree that looks at God all day,

    And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

    A tree that may in summer wear

    A nest of robins in her hair;

    Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

    Who intimately lives with rain.

    Poems are made by fools like me,

    But only God can make a tree.

    This is one of my favorite poems I learned as a young girl. My parents had a lovely paper placemat (when they did those things in restaurants lol) with various labeled drawings of leaves and in the center was Joyce Kilmer's poem. I love to be surrounded by trees and nature and recite this poem to myself...thanks for posting it and bringing back fond memories for me!

  2. Boy, does this hit close to home! I'm a night owl for sure. I love, love, love to stay up late when DH and DD are sound asleep and do my thing! Trying to go to bed early can be difficult as others mentioned, I can lay awake for hours tossing and have to get up and stay up to 3a anyway! I too have felt guilty about this because it does seem the "norm" is to be a morning person and as a Christian I'm well aware of the Bible verses on "rising and shining" LOL I have done my duty as a morning person - attending school, working at jobs starting at 7am to 8am...

    When we started HSing we were up early and began our day "late" at 9am lol A friend of mine who HSs told me she felt guiltly starting at 9am because another mutual friend began her HS at 7am! I just thought that's fine for her but not me. Of course, as the school year progressed 9am was a fond memory! (hanged to 10a!)

    As others mentioned I do love being up early morning as nature comes alive, its peaceful and a great way to begin a day when I can really enjoy it. I can be productive at night or in the morning so over the years I've really become flexible LOL I just naturally prefer to do my "early morning" before the sun comes up LOL DH did tell me not to feel guilty about being up late, unless it's excessive (effects other things) :D He's one of those "up at 5a ready to go and to bed at 9p" people LOL I'm thankful he understands! I agree it's not good to carry guilt about being a night owl. I think we just need to do the best we can for our family and enjoy life (I need to listen to this too!)

  3. Yes, another thank you from me! I used your American History 1 last year and am looking forward to 2. I made some modifications, but sooo appreciate you doing all the hard work!

    :iagree:Adding my Thank you, Jenn! I also used AH1 this past year and will be using AH2 next year, with my tweaks. What a great resource! I appreciate your sharing all your work.

  4. Thanks Elinor! and Michelle!

    What you wrote seems to be more confirmation. I like being able to work ahead at times too. I have printed the diagnostic test to double check where to start DD. Oh, and I enjoyed reading all those little tidbits of information in the samples and DD just loves that kind of stuff LOL

  5. Since I'm looking at other math programs for 4th gr next year, I appreciated reading everyone's comments on CLE as it is one of our top contenders. We are currently using Abeka 3 and although DD has done well it just seems too intense with long lessons. I have learned to cut it down and that has helped but CLE just looks "right" for us at this time. IF anyone else has more to say about it, I'll be reading!:001_smile:

  6. I'm also in MI and it's been years since we've had snowstorms like this, but I do remember them. Seems we get more of the Canadian cold temps now. Amazing the difference across the country, when we usually have lots of snow.

    Ksva - what a beautiful area you live in.

    Thanks to everyone for sharing these pics. Even though the snow is burdensome and can cause major problems, nature's transformation is so beautiful.

    Hope all of you are safe and warm!
