Does Costco not use audiologists? And isn't tweaking just what an audiologist does?
My experience and that of my husband and mother have been that the experience of sounds being too harsh or soft is part of the brain retraining as frequencies are heard again for the first time in years. This was for both cheap and expensive hearing aids.
My Costco has hearing aid technicians. They have 2 months of training. An audiologist has a doctorate degree. Definitely not the same.

Go with the audiologist!! They will tweak the hearings aids until they are just right for the user. Most people who buy hearings aids will give up quickly because they don't like how some sounds are too loud and others are too quiet. Good hearings aids and a good audiologist area worth the price.

I teach IEW for a co-op and have a few students that really struggle with the basics of writing sentences. Kids are between the ages of 11-14. Any curriculum recs that parents can use at home? I have Writing With Ease on my list, others?

What you write about English sounds atrocious.
However, I have one comment: not using a graphing calculator is not a sign of a weak math education. I have a PhD in theoretical physics and have never used one, nor have either of my kids who both have physics degrees.
This is true. In this particular case, it was because they did not have the basics of Algebra and had never done any sort of graphing on paper or a calculator. My kids all get a graphing calculator for Alg 2 once they have the hang of doing things on paper. It is just faster

It was a good call in this case. Often students complain about dumb things, but this complaint was warranted.

I have seen grades over turned by department chair via an appeal. In one case, a upper level science instructor stated that she would provide a formula sheet for the final with specific formulas on it, so she wanted students to not spend their study time memorizing those formulas and instead work on other things. On the final, she declined to provide the formula sheet. The class was recorded and all of the students appealed and showed the head of dept. the recording. They were allowed to retake the final exam.

YES! I have one who has completed college, one in college, and two enrolled in dual credit. Between them, we have experienced college class in two community colleges and 3 universities. The lower level classes are atrocious. They are so, so very light weight and do not teach anything worthwhile. One of my daughter's literature classes watched two movies and had to write a paragraph about each, and that was the entire class. They didn't read a book for American Literature. My current dual credit student is enrolled in a American Lit class this semester. To date, they have read a web-"published" short story each week with homework like identify one character or identify the setting. My oldest took a statistics class at a small university (only 25 students in the course). She pulled out her graphing calculator that she used for high school math and pre-cal/calculus in college and not one of the other students had ever seen one. They all used math apps to get the answers for Alg. 2 in high school. It's crazy town. It is so incredibly dumbed down it is NOT worth the money. We now do dual credit on top of a regular homeschool full load because I am not paying $1500 for a crappy class when they get to university.

I’ve used Illuminating literature by Sharon Watson in a co-op. Seven Sisters homeschool literature guides and composition guides can be used on a co-op. Many were taught in a co-op to begin with. Their website has an article on using them in a co-op.
Thanks! I have the Illuminating Literature. I'll look again, but I don't think that is specific enough for me this year. I'll look at the Seven Sisters though! I haven't seen those

I am wrapping up my co-op class for this school year. It has be a super successful and fun class, but it is SO MUCH work to create a class, so I wasn't going to do one next year. I am being asking by parents to offer a different lit and comp course. I just don't have it in me to completely create another class next year, but if I could find a ready made one, I'd be happy to use it to teach.

McGraw-Hill History and Geography Student Suite???
Two separate texts, but from the same publisher??
Power Basics World History (gr. 5-adult) + Power Basics Geography (gr. 6-adult)Thank you!

I am trying to find a curriculum that is a combined World History plus World Geography that includes quite a bit of mapping. Dyslexia friendly is a plus, so either audiobook or videos available. Student prefers more textbook or direct lecture style vs. literature based. All of my previous kids preferred literature based, so I am trying to find something new.

Until I read about the 1000 on here, I didn't realize there were people who spent so little time outside.
If I lived someplace that had a long and/or dark winter, I would probably be inside more. I am glad I live in a warm place.

Ditch the purse and use this as a wallet: https://www.mywalit.com/credit-card-holder-bosco.html
I am not kidding.
These are really pretty colors. No way I can fit a first aid kit, pocket knife, multi-tool in there though 🙂

Atenti is made in California, and very good quality. I usually buy mine at knitting stores (a win win because I like supporting LYS’s and local makers) but they do have a website: https://www.atentifabricandhome.com/
And, I never see another one just like mine on anyone else, and get tons of compliments on mine.
Those are fun!

For Kipling, Macy’s has a good variety in store, TJ Maxx has some and if you have a Kipling outlet store it might be worth going.
Thanks! I have a very close TJ Maxx I can go too.

What do you need it to fit? My small ones can only fit a phone, small wallet, power bank, hotspot. My slightly larger ones can fit a continental wallet.
Also are you looking for casual or semi formal, zipped or magnetic closure or open
As for wallets, for 20 credit card size items, I have to use my continental wallet because I like to see my cards. My husband just squeeze his in a stack in his bifold wallet and it ends up looking bulky.
I always carry a wallet with all the cards for all the things, phone, first aid kit, pens, pocket knife, small multitool, keys to all the buildings I have to access on a regular basis chapstick, hand lotion.
I generally prefer zip closure and a casual look.

This is likely unpopular, but I leave my tote bag in my car, filled with "just in case" items, and just carry with me (in pockets) what I need (into the store, etc).
I started this when the kids were babies---having all kinds of backup items in the van, just in case . . . but just bringing a key and a credit card in my pocket.I keep my console full of 'extras' like a just in case lighter, full first aid kit, ziploc baggies, pad of paper etc. My purse has the little first aid kits, pens and a sharpie, wallet, hand lotion etc.

Thank you all! Years ago I had a Bagallini Sidney. I would now be too big for what I am looking for, but their small crossbody's are too little. I will take a look at Kipling, I haven't heard of those. The Big Skinny wallet looks perfect for what I need, so I can check that off my list.

I currently have a huge checkbook size wallet. I'd like something smaller, but it needs to hold 20 plus credit cards-- rather plastic cards that are credit sized. It seems like every thing these days are made that size and need to be in my wallet. I like a medium sized purse that is a shoulder bag. My current purses are too big, but I can't get something tiny I am not ever sure where to start looking ! I haven't purchased a new wallet or purse in a decade.
Thank goodness for electronic payment!

I left my wallet at home this morning while my junior and I are visiting colleges. I was able to download restaurant apps, and then just transfer money to the apps with Venmo so we can eat. Going to set up Google Pay now just in case.
Thankful for phones and electronic payment today.
