I have always said our healthcare system needs reform.

I just don't trust our government to run it.

Personally I'd probably be fine - my kids and I don't have any serious health issues.  But I do believe many people would suffer much more than they suffer now.

Our government is not comparable to other governments.  Maybe some countries' governments do this right (more or less), but I have no faith in ours.  Just about every major legislation in recent decades intended to help people has failed and often hurt people.  All while costing a ton of money.  There is no reason for me to believe it would be different with health care.

The US government has not earned our trust IMO.

But big business has earned your trust? I can't see how things can get much worse. The cost of basic healthcare in America is highly prohibitive for many Americans. Even those who have insurance often can't afford the deductibles. Imagine how much harder it is to get well from an illness or accident if you are constantly stressed over how you are going to pay the medical bills. Our "system" is going to burst just like the housing bubble in 2008, but at the cost of many lives. I am more than happy to let the government have a go if it means that I don't have to take second and third jobs to pay for medical care.

  2. Come to Florida! North Florida is very conservative and not bad on cost of living. I think our home school laws are super easy to comply with! No state income tax although property tax and home owner's insurance can be on the expensive side, but not as much in north Florida. And then there are the beautiful Gulf Beaches, and, in central Florida, the theme parks. I love living here!

  3. I think I am looking for something that doesn't exist. My daughter wants history that is not online, and not a large textbook either. I've looked at Notgrass, Mystery of History and other Christian options, but I really want her history focus to be neutral if possible. We are a Christian family, but I am not in favor of skewed or biased history. I would love to know if anyone has found an option like I am describing.

  4. When I turned 50 two years ago, I was feeling how you are now. Although I was a full-time teacher, my daughter had just become a teenager and no longer needed me like she did before. We were still home schooling, but she was much more independent. I began to really focus on my needs for the first time since she had been born. I started walking and lost 20 pounds. I upgraded my wardrobe, and joined groups to meet friends. I met my now best friend that way, and her support has been amazing. My husband and I are separated, but still living together mostly for financial reasons. It has been very amicable because we both realized that we really want different things out of life. We have separate bedrooms, and my daughter describes the three of us as roommates ? A few years ago, I would have been super depressed about ever thinking of divorce and eventually being on my own, but making the positive changes I've made, including separation as a married couple, has been beneficially for me and my family.

  5. I agree with St. Augustine, Savannah and Charleston. We now live in the Orlando area, and I took my 14 year old daughter to St. Augustine last summer, and she had a great time. We visited the fort, the old school house and several museums. I know she learned a lot. We also spent time at the beach. A few years ago, we lived in central Georgia, and we took her as a 9 year old to Savannah and Charleston. She loved Ft. Sumter even though i was afraid she would be bored!. She still talks about that trip, and the old churches and River walk in Savannah too.

Btw, I am not a new poster. I am leeannpal, but when the new boards came in, I had t re-register for some reason. I've been on the boards since I fist started thinking about homeschooling 8 years ago ?

  6. My daughter is vegan, and her dad and I are working on using meat less often. So, our meal are changing:).

Monday-vegetarian chili with ground chicken on the side for those that want it included in the chili

    Tuesday-meatless tacos

Wednesday-daughter-Vegan "chicken" tender, veggies, couscous-her dad and I will have the veggies and couscous with chipotle chicken thighs

Thursday-daughter-curry rice/beans-her dad and I will have pork curry

    Friday-potluck or eat out.
