  1. Hi all, you were so helpful with my last post on nanny cam suggestions, that I thought I would ask her for help again:

is there a product that detects falls and will notify me instead of a central operator? My mom has fallen 3 times now in the last 5 days and adamantly refuses to go to assisted living. We have an aide lined up, and people to come into her home daily, but they won’t be there all day every day. She cannot use her cell phone. I’m hoping there is a product where she can push a button that will call me, or detects a fall and notifies me (in case she can’t push a button).

I know, we should insist on assisted living or move her in with my sister or me, but she is hard and we’re trying to balance all the things.

If you intend to hide these cameras you want to make sure it’s legal where you live. Generally it’s not okay to record people without their consent.

Thank you, this is good to keep in mind. I live in a state where it is ok. We intend to tell all the caregivers that we will have multiple cameras set up throughout the house, so they will know that they’re there.

  3. I’m wondering if anyone can help me with something: starting next week, we will have several providers and helpers coming into my mom’s house for various reasons. We would like to set up some nanny cams in several rooms that ideally include sound and we can access the feed remotely. The agency knows we intend to do this, and actually are the ones who suggested it. Any suggestions for specific brands / types to get? Thank you!

  4. I’ve been doing a lot of research on both the Camino and the South West Coast path around the tip of England, trying to decide which one I want to do. The SWCP would take 7-ish weeks if I did the whole thing, which I would have to spread out over 3 separate trips. Or I could do the Camino in one, or do several different Camino paths over time as well. Both sound really intriguing to me and something I definitely want to pursue in a few years.

  5. Sending you all of my love and support. I’ve been in a similar situation with suspicious findings, waiting for more definitive answers, and an unsupportive husband. It’s ok to be a nervous wreck and thinking about potential options - it’s a stressful position to be in. Also know, as others have said, that you’re not alone - you have an entire family here that will support you through whatever may come. I’m praying your results will be negative.

  6. Several of her songs were my anthems on repeat while I was getting divorced: Tolerate It, We Are Never Getting Back Together, and I Forgot That You Existed, among others.

My favorite T. Swift / divorce story is when my narcissist ex-husband showed up on my 88-year-old mom’s doorstep with flowers and chocolate cake, trying to get her to convince me to stay with him. She bluntly told him to never come back and said, “It’s like that Tara Smith song, We will never be together again!” This from a woman who doesn’t know how to use the internet, email, her phone, etc (despite us showing her how a million times). I love the thought of my mom quoting (trying to!) Taylor Swift to him!  🤣

  7. I would just add to be sure and check the license plate number and type of car before getting in. The app will tell you that a “white Mazda, license plate ABC123” will be picking you up. Make sure that matches before getting in. I’ve never used Lyft, but in the Uber app, there’s also an option to notify someone of your choosing of your location.

  8. I’m so glad it worked for you - I have that video bookmarked and use it several times a year.

As far as seeing your doctor, I never do after having vertigo, but I’m certainly not going to tell you not to if you think it’s appropriate.

    Congratulations on your newest grandchild!

  9. I rowed over 45,000 meters last week, and have stayed on point with my eating. My weight is slowly inching down, so that’s encouraging. I have my meals planned out for the rest of the week, so should stay good. But this Saturday, I’m going on a vacation with my sister for a week, so all eating and exercise bets are off. We will do a lot of walking, but I do not intend to avoid all sugar like I have so far this year. I’ll get back on the case when we get home.

  10. One week into the new year, and I’m still on point with my food. I’ve been keeping track of things on My Fitness Pal, and haven’t had any of my regular stress foods (soda, sweets, etc). I’m trying to keep the momentum going, but also give myself some grace if I’m not perfect.
