Our chickens eat meat right up.

Sure, but I'm not sure if there's salt in them and we try to be careful not to give them added salt.

They look precooked. No gravy. The patty melt idea sounds good too. I'll check out Pioneer Woman's recipes.

We also got a large amount of breakfast sausage links and Italian sausage, so I'm going to be using that in stuff like spaghetti, beans, and breakfast burritos.

  2. After going through OPGTR 4 times with my kids, dd5 officially finished this morning! She's my last. Teaching reading isn't my favorite. OPGTR has been awesome because it is straight and to the point and has worked with all my kids. But now I never have to do it again! I'm probably more excited than my daughter.

Just wanted to brag because I thought you guys might get it. 🙂

  3. I have two go-to's on days I'm just hungry. One is a breakfast burrito. Eggs, black beans, and salsa are all free on blue. Then a 1pt Tortilla, 3pts for 2 slices of bacon (usually pre-made and in tiny pieces by me ahead of time) and 1pt for cheese. 5pts in all and is really yummy. Less bacon if I don't have the points that day.

My other is grits. I don't know what it is but grits are crazy filling. So maybe 4pts of grits, 2 fried eggs and 1pt  butter spread on top. Bacon if I can afford the points.

We have a platform bed that is great for stability.  Also the memory foam mattress does not move when one person moves.  The bed we had before.....I basically was rolling down the center toward dh all night.  LOL

Yeah, we have a memory foam bed that shouldn't transfer like that, but the wobbly bed frame makes that obsolete. Honestly I'm probably putting the mattress on the floor until I can find one. Do you know what platform bed you have?

  5. Dh has started tossing and turning a lot and it's waking me up multiple times a night. We think the biggest issue is our bedframe which has a little sway to it. We currently have a metal bedframe, but aren't fans. Do any of you recommend a bedframe that doesn't move at all?

  6. I feel like I'm doing pretty well, but there's this cake I've been craving. There's a place near us that makes their own chocolate from scratch and then makes this delicious chocolate cake. I think I'm using my weeklies on it this week. I'm still averaging about a pound a week, which is slow but steady. It's pretty doable for me.

  7. Dd8 wanted Buffalo wings for her birthday dinner last night. They are one of my favorite foods. I managed to eat just a few and stayed within my weekly points, even if I went over my daily points. I'm trying to figure out how to do this long-term rather than just deny myself everything short term, so I consider this a win. I'm ok with slower loss if I can keep it up. I'm pretty proud though.

  8. Dd8 just finished as well! She didn't do as well as she hoped but this was literally her first time with a standardized test besides the national mythology exam. She loves the t-shirt and tiny kangaroo though. 😊

As purely random curiosity, how did you find out about the contest if not through their website? 😄

Here. I mean, we used the website to sign up and get practice tests and things. I just didn't know they had results on there. 😊

    Oh, very nice!! That's a good score 🙂 .

DD8 missed something like 3 last year, but her percentile actually dipped from the year before that, when she missed MANY more 😂. If you look at their high scorer lists, last year was the only year they had to upload files 😉

Where do they post previous lists and things?

We'll take it on Thursday as well 🙂 .

There were massive amounts of cheating last year, by the way -- so if you want to see how your kid did compared to other kids, you should compare to scores from other years, since I expect the same amount of cheating this year.

Thanks for the heads up. She only missed 2 so she's pretty pumped. Since this is our first year, our expectations are pretty low.

No, but I've considered it for the future. We don't live in a bike friendly area though, so I hesitate to get attached to the idea. Some friends who do live in a bike friendly area got pedal assist bikes, and I think they've liked them.

Yeah, our area is pretty bike friendly, with miles of bike paths all around town. Riding bikes is fun but we have lots of big hills and I hate getting all sweaty. Now I'll be able to take advantage of the beauty of the trails without it being intimidating.

  13. I just ordered a RadRunner Plus and I am so excited. Its backordered until May so I have a bit of a wait. I'm not looking to replace my car but do think I'll use it instead of my car fairly often now that I can leave the kids home by themselves. Any other ebike owners here?

We did SOTW  almost entirely on audio in the car.  I would check out picture books from the relative time period to look at and read.  We didn't do any structured formal activities, but we did do a lot of informal "activities" that we made up as we went along, as our mood suited us: the kids incorporated a lot of history into their free play, we made costumes, ate food from various times and places, baked hard-tack, built a trebuchet to fling apples, duct-tape weapons, etc.  It was very organic and somewhat unschooly.  They've retained a lot.

We do it almost exclusively as audio in the car as well. And that's all. I don't do any projects. Sometimes I'll get a library book on a subject we recently listened to, but we don't do any projects. We listen to a few chapters a week and when we finish the series we start over again. They will have listened to the whole series several times before middle school. They enjoy it. I do consider us as more unschooling history though. SOTW is just one resource we use informally.

  15. I count any day we do the majority of book work. I aim for 170 days because I figure at public schools kids can have up to ten absences. Our state doesn't require any number though. We were in the 180s last year and this year is looking to be similar. I'd even be ok going lower because I don't count testing, field trips, or party days. We just school any day we don't have something better to do year round.

What is free on the green plan? Sounds like building meals around free or low point foods would help fill you up and get in more nutrients. I would be hungry too on what you ate yesterday!
On purple things like all fruits and vegetables (even starchy ones like potatoes), beans, non fat dairy, chicken breast, fish, eggs, brown rice, oatmeal, and whole wheat pasta are all free. I can easily build filling, nutritious meals around those foods and have plenty of fiber, carbs, and protein. And all foods that it’s hard to overeat on. I don’t see myself overeating brown rice or potatoes. Actually, I LOVE potatoes, but smothered in butter, cheese, and sour cream. So I just have a smaller portion. I use my points to fill in my meals with cheese, higher fat dairy, oil, butter, dressings, and higher fat proteins. Sometimes bread but not often. I prefer to go for the fats with my points. The “downside” of purple is fewer points. I get 16 a day. But with the free foods it’s enough and keeps me from going overboard on cheese and sugar. I always have the weekly points I can dip into too if I need them, although I usually try to save those for pizza night and a weekly lunch with a friend.

Yeah. It's similar with the blue plan. Sort of a happy medium between green and purple. Beans, eggs, chicken, yogurt, fish, and fruits and veggies are free but not whole grain pasta or potatoes. But we get more points than purple. I get 26 a day. If I recall, green is more points but only free fruits and veggies?

I had a half a cup of avocado....basically an entire smallish avocado.  But yeah, still not much food over all.

This morning I am having 2/3 cup of non fat plain greek yogurt, fruit and chia seeds. It has been my go to breakfast for over a year because it is easy to get a lot of my fiber in early in the day with this breakfast.  I prefer to add pecans also, but pecans and chia seeds will really up the points.

The slaw with the tacos is a good idea.

I started this WW Monday with not  much food in the house and no real plan.  Going to the store today will help....and I guess for not having a plan I haven't done too bad.

We were posting at the same time. I definitely think shopping will help a ton!

  18. WW is designed to incentivize healthy foods. Not all calories are equal. The free foods are free not because they are necessarily low calorie but because they are more filling and its difficult to overeat them. When I'm hungry, eggs, fruit, and veggies are my go to because they cost fewer or no points. I use my points to spice up my regular foods. Like bacon with brussels sprouts or butter or dressings.

I find meal planning to be essential and the first few weeks is hardest because you're trying to find recipes that you like that work for you. There's also more meal prep. No way around it.
