  1. I have to go to Utica, NY for a couple days. We are thinking that my DH will fly up to meet me for the weekend. It is so rare for the two of us to get away without the kids but...we are thinking of it. We have been to Niagara and NYC but never spent time in the Adirondacks. We love mountains, walking, etc. Does anyone know of a cottage/lodge/hotel that would be a great place for a couple to stay?

  2. So I am newly GF (July 3) due to some thyroid issues and a recommendation from my doctor. I am trying to make this change less painful and have tried some of my favorite foods in a GF way. One thing I loved in the summer was zucchini bread. I found a decent recipe that has good taste but I am struggling with the texture. It comes out chewy and a bit soggy. My recipe calls for rice flour, xanthum gum, and then the traditional ingredients (egg, vanilla, etc.) Any suggestions on a better recipe that might have a more bread-like texture? Is the xanthum gum what makes it chewy? I tried cutting back on it the last time I made it but it didn't seem to change.

  3. Oh my it was so cool! We had so much in common! I'm more of a closet WTM boarder even though I've been on it for 8 years so it was so much fun to meet someone IRL. I think we could have talked for a long time so I am so happy we connected!

  4. I'm tired of looking through my piles of papers for my favorite recipes. I don't need anything professional is I really don't like to cook all that much. But I would like something that I could maybe even store in the cloud so I could have access from any computer or my phone when I'm in the grocery store. I'm thinking of something that has an easy to use template so I don't have to set up the format every time. Anything?

  5. I've been looking for the same. I'm in a lot of airports for business and then on concrete quite a bit. I was introduced to Ecco's and do really like them from what I learned. However, I haven't been able to bring myself to pay the $109 yet. I might though. I did find a pair of Skecher GoWalks for $49 that I bought and am going to try. They are between tennis shoes and casual. http://www.amazon.co...owalkI' I'll be wearing them next week on a trip to Chicago so if you are still looking after that pm me and I'll let you know what I thought. They were quite a bit cheaper than Ecco's.

  6. For those of you who have used WWE...has it worked for your dc? WWE1 has been ok for us. It got a bit redundant and boring. However, writing is one of those subjects where I do NOT want to create my own curriculum. For my older 9th grade ds we have used a few different writing programs (Writing Strands, Rod & Staff, and one other that I can't think of at the moment) but we never really fell in love with a program so with the youngest I am trying WWE. Again, I have no complaints. I just read such mixed reviews here about it (sorry) and I really want to know...does it work for you? And if you have just a few more minutes...why or why not?

  7. DS15 who lives for and absolutely loves basketball and, truthfully, is a very good player recently sprained his ankle and damaged his "anterior talofibular ligament". He has been in a boot for a little over a week. The swelling has gone down and the pain has decreased and he wants to get back to basketball. Since it was on a weekend we went to urgent care instead of our regular orthopedist. I'm thinking we can do this without physical therapy if we do it right. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation of a brace and/or exercises to strengthen him? Yes, I've heard that once you roll an ankle you are prone to that again so we want to do everything possible to prevent that as much as we can. He plays on a competitive team that does well at Nationals in the Homeschool championships and he is so anxious to get back to playing! Thanks for any help!

  8. Do you sell the cards with it? I am about to sell Levels 1 and 2. I noticed when I looked at the materials for Level 3 that you review previous cards. I guess the cards are numbered beginning with level 1 and go on forward through all levels? So would it be better to keep the cards all together and sell at the end of all the levels or break up the set and sell the cards with each level they apply to?

  9. I would agree with most posters that you shouldn't stop EXCEPT...because of the ages of your kids I think you will be ok. Many students actually don't even start until age 8 so I don't think it will be a major problem if you really think this is what is best for your family. If they were any older I would really try hard not to take that break. If you are truly in it for the marathon and not the sprint and plan on them taking for many years I think you will be ok.

  10. Well...I would consider myself a fleece expert. ha! I have many, many fleece jackets in just about every color. I am now adding to my collection the new version of fleece-like jackets that are much softer to the touch. (Kind of like going from the original throw blankets to the new ones that you just want to instantly snuggle with.) In winter I prefer the new softer versions. In summer I prefer the original version (for wearing into a restaurant, taking to Disney World for cool areas, etc.) as they are not as clingy and will repel light rain. As far as Columbia versus other brands...Every Thanksgiving Bass Pro has fleece jackets for $10. They used to sell them with an inside pocket and an outside zippered pocket. This year's models did not have the zippered pocket on the outside. I like both of those pockets for Disney World so I can keep things secure in them. I also own two Columbia fleece jackets that I paid more for. I have to say that the only one that has had an issue is the Columbia one. The zipper pull broke off. It MIGHT be very, very slightly heavier but my BP jackets have never pilled, faded or shrunk so I am sold on paying $10 for the BP ones.

  11. I am still working on Daniel. I'm getting a bit bogged down here in week 9 but will motivate myself to move forward tomorrow. When I finish it I will do the James study. I used to study them in a group setting but for the last few years I have really enjoyed downloading the video sessions and studying at home. I miss some of the group time but can start and stop the video as I need to, rewatch it, and I never get behind!

  12. I got some boring stuff:

A coat rack from Menards for 10 bucks that I needed (free shipping).

A 7'x10' rug, 5'x7' rug, at Lowe's for half price ($60 and $30). The store is just a few minutes away so I'll pick them up and if I don't like them I'll leave them!

Fresh fir wreath from Lowe's for $5.00 and 15' of fresh garland for $5.00.

I did splurge on the Marie grace nightgown and matching girl nightgown for $32 from AG.

I'm looking for a 60 inch tv deal but so far found the best price in-store at Sam's.

  13. We are near the beginning of Level 2. When I give the spelling words, dd is struggling with knowing what vowels to use. For instance, she would spell "item" with a u instead of an e which, of course, can be how it sounds. I don't remember a "rule" that would tell her that it is an e instead of a u. Another example would be "broken". She would spell it with an i. I could emphasize "ken" instead of "kin" but that isn't how anyone says it, not that I overemphasize an i sound. So...when this happens, do I just give her the correct vowel? Sometimes if I tell her that letter isn't right then she will try another incorrect letter and at that point I wish I had just told her how to properly spell it. I don't think she has spelling "issues" - I'm just not sure if I am missing something that I should have told her or these are just words you have to memorize. She "gets" the rules - such as pronouncing long vowels, etc. but on these spelling words I'm not sure what the correct way to direct her is. Any help?

  14. I'm becoming convinced that the primal diet would be very beneficial. All these supplements and shakes sound like quality products. But I was wondering if anyone with more experience with supplements can suggest some equally quality products (maybe from Vitacost?) that would be more affordable? Yes, I know that in many cases you get what you pay for. But I also know that there are some quality supplements that are more affordable...I just don't know how to make the comparisons. Anyone with more experience would be very appreciated!

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

  15. I think you should do what you WANT to do, what you feel is best for you and your family...but...and I'll probably regret saying this...I'm glad we didn't feel like we had to have all those rules when our children were born as we were very flexible and had some fantastic early memories sharing our new babies with family. Again, and I've already said it so don't slam me as if I didn't...you have to do what you think is best for you. I'm glad we felt differently and were a lot more relaxed about things but I do wish you many blessings on your new addition!
