  1. Another vote here for patternreview reviews!

I bought a Juki 654 from sewingmachinesplus.com this past summer. I have been very happy with it the few times I've used it. I've only sewn a few things, but the threading and the ease of getting the tension right makes a joy to use! I had a basic Singer serger before this and the finicky threading made me cringe any time I needed to use it.

    Happy shopping!

(on a side note...for me, sewing machine shopping is similar to selecting a baby name. It's fun to look around, but when I've got to make the final decision it's a little intimidating.)

  2. My ds10 got contacts this past winter. He mainly uses them when playing sports, especially hockey and baseball. He wears disposables. Sometimes I put them in for him, but usually i just hold his eye open (top & bottom lids) while he puts them in. I think there's a lot of flexibility as to how you can get them to work for children.

  3. I would second the option of checking a sewing machine store vs. a department store. The sewing machines already listed are wonderful brand names. I bought an old used Bernina 830 which has metal inside instead of plastic. It works great but doesn't have a lot of fancy options. I too have been looking for sewing machines for my daughter (not this year, but possibly in a year or two) and I've wondered if getting one with a slow and normal speed option would be beneficial... So many variables - have fun deciding :) I would love to hear what you decide to purchase.

  4. I like the worksheets for the same reason others have mentioned. We do a lot of the work orally, except diagramming and a few other things. The worksheets allow my children to do the work without requiring me at the same time. Just a nice way to change it up. The worksheets don't contain everything covered in the textbook assignments. Generally the "review" portion of the text is not covered in the worksheets.

  5. I'm asking for a friend...

She is looking for the answer keys for the 3rd edition Bob Jones Math Grades 4 & 5.

Are these available in a booklet style with answers only, or if she wants the answers does she need to purchase the complete teacher manual?

I know there is a math curriculum out there that you can purchase answer keys for separately (from a different publisher I think), but I don't remember which curriculum. I have searched the boards - to no avail! That says more about my search abilities than anything else. :glare:

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
