Oh I guess I am misreading something here.
-
Maybe I'm misreading your post but during the 40years in the wilderness the Lord performed many signs and wonders so you would think after 40 years all 12 spies would have no doubt about the Lord's faithfulness but no. Even after 40 years of miracle after miracle only 2 believed.
Acts 7:36 He brought them out, after that he had showed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

My husband and I are going to the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Ohio. I was trying to get an idea of the cost to register the older two with Children's Conferences International. Also, has anyone ever used CCI during a conference? Thoughts or opinions welcomed:001_smile:

I have used MFW all the way through so I can't compare it to WP. The Bible in MFW is what has kept me there and it is never too overwhelming that I can't add the other elements I want to.
:iagree:
We have used and loved MFW K, 1st, Adventures, and ECC. We love how the Bible is integrated into the programs!

We are using MFW ECC this year and one of the books I love is Window on the World. You could use this book for whichever program you chooses. What I love about this book is it takes you to so many different places/cultures and tells youmwhat they believe and how you can pray for them. It has been very eye opening for all of us!
We are also enjoying the YWAM books and Hero Tales which are also part of ECC but were already mentioned. We used Adventures and LOVED it but like another poster said there is not a mission focus. I think "mission focus" is not only how you study missions but also how you live it out in your family.

It was 85 and humid here in Charleston, SC :tongue_smilie:

We use it for our 3rd grader and he loves it.

Just wanted to add in response to buying non-Lamplighter versions of the stories... they may not be exactly the same. They sometimes tweak them to make them more doctrinally sound.
From the Lamplighter website:
"Upon Mark's approval, modifications are sometimes considered for each of our books. Mark sometimes recommends changes to assure that each book contains biblical themes and that the spiritual messages within are theologically accurate."
I think I actually read or heard somewhere that Teddy's Button was one of the ones that was changed a bit. Possibly where salvation was being explained? I could be wrong on the book though..
Either way, I just wanted to throw that out there. I'd personally buy them from Lamplighter for the sake of doctrinal accuracy. Plus they're so darn pretty :)
Thanks for letting me know:)

Thanks to all of you for your replies! I just did an amazon search and put Mark Hamby and it came up with all of the lamplighter books. Most significantly lower.
-
I noticed that Teddy's Button is public domain, and Amazon has a free ebook download.
That made me wonder - are all of their books public domain?
Oh wow! I do love the look of the Lamplighter ones but at least I could read through before purchase. Thanks!
-
I had never heard of these books before, so thank you! However, I did find that if you don't mind having the Lamplighter editions of the books you can purchase the books themselves from the original authors for much cheaper. For example Teddy's Button by Amy Le Feuvre is $19 from Lamplighter and only $8.99 through Amazon. Jessica's First Prayer is only $7.95 compared to $15, etc.
Now these are paperback prices and obviously the look and quality of the book are not the same but if you want the books but not the cost this is a way to go. I checked for some of the titles through our library system and some of them are not available.
Oh thanks for sharing this! I looked up Lamplighter's book club and it's a great deal! I never thought though about looking up the originals.
-
I was courious if any of you have read any of the Lamplighter books. If so, which one(s) are your favorites? I have looked through a catalog and they seem like great books but they are expensive IMO. Are they worth the investment?
Thanks for any and all opinions.

I think that would be the perfect gift! I think your FIL would be so appreciative you actually took the time, energy, and thought into such a great gift idea!

Thank you so much for sharing!

I'm a really pathetic newbie that wants to learn more... can't figure out all the abbreviations...like ffl? We just started using WWE for 3 of my kids and I just made a guess which level they'd be at... it's pretty much grade level for that, although, b/c one of my dd struggles, I ordered one down and it's perfect for her. hth!:001_huh:
It would have been easier if i wrote the correct abbreviation! Lol! I'm still figuring out abbreviations! What is hth?
Thanks for everyone's reply!

Sorry...I meant FLL:tongue_smilie:

If so, do you know how to find the tests? I saw on another thread someone mentioned placement tests for WWE but I could not find them on the website.
Thanks

Does anyone know where to find the placement tests?

In March of this year we were in a financial bind and I had to go to work full time. I'm a nurse and I would work 12hrs Sat, Sun, and Mondays. Thankfully, I was able to quit in May! It was way too hard to balance! I did what was necessary for that time but I did not manage well. My husband helped as much as he could (dinner was made, house picked up, and kids were bathed and in bed by the time i got home) but I just felt like I never stopped going because I always had to make sure we had our school stuff planned and implemented. Also, emotionally it was challenging because I didn't see the two youngest for three days out of the week. Your circumstances sound different so you may not encounter the challenges I did. If you are working because you need to then I feel like we can do anything for a season but if you do not need to work then I'm not sure I would take on that much. I enjoy working PRN (as needed) a few days a month.

We use My Father's World and LOVE it! I know in year 2 of the history cycle they use SOTW.

We bought one (hard cover) and love it. Hubby is in the process of making the second one.
CC: Would this bother you from a pastor?

Gotcha...I had the wrong chronology too.:001_smile: That would bother me. If you are a pastor preparing a message you read the Word to prepare so he should have said the correct chronology. But I would have asked the pastor after it after the service so I could be clear he was on the wrong page.
