  1. "Just doing things for him that show I care, taking time to show interest in his work - he starts talking about it and my eyes glaze over.  "

He's a great guy.  Even changed his task management method (I'm very into that stuff right now, planning for school, etc...) he has had on the computer to a paper method  so we can do together at home, simply because I'm interested in it.

I mean nice things like that.

I just don't take the time to make him a priority with all the other priorities that ask for my attention and I'm trying to be more INTENTIONAL about it.  Scheduling a date night every other week is the current thing I'm trying to incorporate.

  2. (I've edited from original...putting too much out there...)

I could use a kick in the pants about some things and wanted to share in case anyone has words of wisdom they can bring forth to help the effort, lol...

Politeness - common southern courtesy is such an easy skill for some of my peeps.  Yes ma'am in a genuine way and kind, courteous gestures just roll off their tongues.  I'd like to be more polite.

Being better dressed -does take more effort for me, I'm trying...

Romance with the hubster - Just doing things for him that show I care, taking time to show interest in his work - he starts talking about it and my eyes glaze over.  In the same vein though I can get red hot angry if he doesn't listen to me.  Grrrr.  I hate that about me.  still working on it.

Entertaining - idk - it's the shopping, the cleaning up, the cooking all day, to have a dinner party last two/three hours and they're gone.  BUT - these are the days...if I don't do it who will?  My kids LOVE having families over and my man needs the companionship of other men.  However, I still drag my feet.  I have been reading some books on parties and that's a little bit encouraging.

  3. Great ideas!

I am challenged by where to go from here.  Do I just open the books and do the next thing or make a notebook with tabs for each subject and follow the next topic that I've planned out.  I'm still figuring out how to implement the loop.  How do I make a system so I don't forget where I am, what to do?

I think I'm going to read and listen to some info on the loop scheduling because while I can make a list of what I want to do I still don't understand how to implement it.

It's been a while since I've had to make my own schedule.  If it helps I am a true box checker who used an all in one curricula source with a lesson plan  loops are new to me...

  4. I'd like to find or make a schedule sheet that has a section for loop items and a section for daily items, including chores.

Has anyone found a similar sheet already made?  Mostly I'd like to use a checklist format, not a table.  I don't want to enter specifics pages and what not, just subject matter.

Kind of like the old AO forms used to be...where you see Shakespeare and such in a chart, then daily activities above it.

    Am I making sense?

    Daily:

    Bible

    Math

    Literature

    CC review

    Loop:

    LA: spelling, grammar, composition

FA:  cd lesson, shakespeare, nature study, art study, character

  5. No access to power to cook with  - and I think my cooler is just a normal rated one.  I will have the ability to retrieve ice, once a day if needed I hope.

Sounds exciting but it really isn't.  Kinda feels like I'm going to the island on LOST, lol.  I'm not.  Nothing anywhere near that exciting~we are opting out of the food being served at a camp due to dietary restrictions and eating from our car.  The first day and the last day we will just eat a large lunch before we arrive.  It's the middle day I am having trouble with.

HB eggs and fruit, salami or ham, a block of cheese, fruit, pbj, and some bagged tuna might do for dinner.  Thanks for the idea.  Bagged tuna is a big help!  Pbjs are always easy and popular, jerky?  Idk, I've never eaten it.

" A small block of cheese can be left unrefrigerated for a few days"

    I did not know this...

  6. We need an idea for breakfast, lunch and dinner that needs to stay in car for 2 days in high heat but is still relatively healthy.

I will have a cooler but it really logistically can't stay cold longer than 24 hours, right?

I have tons of ideas for prepackaged snacks - it's the actual meals I'm having trouble figuring out.

  7. app has

    menu selections

can choose which ones you want and add to list

    each recipe:

    photo

    prep time

    cook time

    total time

ingredients and instructions for main and side dish

cook mode - awesome feature!  no more bringing in an ipad or the laptop or even lower tech - printing out and putting on a cookbook stand, lol - simply select and look at phone on countertop

    share meal features

    favorites

shopping list - sorted by ingredients and meal recipes.  Can delete a meal right there and list updates and you can add items to your list.  Once you mark as completed, they don't disappear, items move to completed tab but you can still see them.  That's handy for the times you mistakenly select cilantro and realize it said parsley but you can't remember how much you needed.  Nice feature.

You can also see previous plans you selected, so I'm going to select a few different ones and have them stored on the app to give me a greater selection should I need to substitute.

HTH - I feel like I'm a commercial. If in two days it turns out to be a bust, I'm sharing that too.  So I'm no sales rep - :)

  8. I've never seen Simple Gourmet.  Checking it out now.

As for Plan to Eat.  I am a pro at adding recipes there.  It has replaced my own paper collection - except the ones my kids would want my scribbled handwriting on...I have around 300 I think. I never use it for meal planning tho...I don't know why.  Choosing what goes with what maybe?  Idk.

I did Relish years ago.  Still make a lentil soup recipe I found on there.  YUM.  But that didn't seem like enough food and it was almost as if the recipe planners only spice combo was herbes de provence.  SO MUCH hdp... :)

  9. I'm surprised by how much emeals has changed.  Don't misinterpret me - I'm no expert and I'm only two hours into it.  I'm impressed though.  The meals are actually looking very good.

curried beef with coconut-cilantro cauliflower rice

molasses chicken breasts with strawberry peach salsa and grilled red cabbage

prosciutto wrapped cod with oven roasted tomatoes and shaved zucchini salad

What's really awesome about the app is that it is letting me sub in things from other menus when I don't like/have/want to spend what they're suggesting.

  10. Clean eating looks better in terms of amount...the grilled orange beef shish kabobs with greek pasta salad looks more up our alley in terms of quanity/variety

Yes, the piccata was on the quick and healthy.  On the same plan is the blt and sweet potato salad - that would be a nice meal for a church night around here!  And bacon - always a hit, lol.  But filling?  I would think so, just looks so simple.  That may be the point though, lol!

thanks for the input.  Which meal plan have you been sticking with?

  11. The eggplant sandwich is from this week's diabetic and the chicken piccata was just what popped up when the chat lady gave me a link to a sample recipe (I think).

I downloaded the app and just threw a dish in the crockpot - frozen chicken and made a sauce...the recipe is called barbecue chicken lettuce wraps (from the clean eating plan).  I have almost everything for the wrap and side. With a quick stop to the store and some time, dinner today is done.

    This shouldn't be so hard.

I am loving that I can pick from different plans with the app.  That helps for throwing something together, but I realize the point is to have a plan and shop that plan.  Right now, though, I have alot in the freezer I'd like to use up first.  This just may work out.

  12. I put in the family plan, I think that is 4 to 6 people.  We do have 7 here, but one is a child.  Also, I meant it doesn't seem like a piece of chicken, a side of asparagus and mushrooms is really adequate for us.  We usually have more starch and veggies.

I'll just have to try it.  Maybe what k10coon said about getting off track is a problem for me too.  I start questioning the meal...I need to either be in or out, lol.

Again, I'm high maintenance I think...

  13. I'm just seeing that.  I downloaded the app too and it looks promising.  I also have scheduled with a meal plan "consultant" assistant, whatever.  WE shall see.

    LOL.

I think my problem is I don't really want to plan, shop and cook.  One of the three but not all three.

Don't think there is a solution for that one.

Wait - if I can get DH to shop on way home from work, emeals does the planning, then I'll only have to cook.  My fave part anyway...

    :)

  14. GTD methods have been the focus of my homeschool mental bandwidth lately.  He talks in the book about really deciding what DONE looks like.  Then determining what the next action to get closer to done is.

I can't even figure that out.

Here's a stab at it...for accountability purposes maybe listing it here will help, lol.  What is wrong with me that I need the hive to get moving - first few years of hs'ing I was ALL OVER this stuff!  I'm old...it is what it is.

"Done" with homeschool planning to me will look like:

all testing and state hs paperwork is filed and submitted letter of intent saved on computer, need to order and do test

I have a planner and have a method for using it plum paper planner, scm organizer

I have large commitments on a calendar (scouts, CC, online class terms, etc.)

I have a list of all curricula by student, by subject

I have all curricula purchased and in hand

I have a reasonable goal of where I will be by end of fall term, winter term, spring term

I have a list of what "extras" I'd like to squeeze in (field trips, holiday events, art and music classes, phys ed opportunities, etc.) and their appropriate seasons/deadlines on a calendar

I have budgeted a category of spending for next year because DARN IT I won't want to outlay this much money again at once!

I have organized and decided on breaks and enrichment days for ME because I am burnt out and if we're going to keep this machine going I'll need times to recuperate.

  15. YES!  I'm going.  Would love a meetup.

And any ages would be fun I would think. Toddlers might get a bit bored at Colonial Wmsbg...but they would love Water Country, lol.

At least they could run free at Col Wmsbg in most places.  I wouldn't dare do the Gov mansion with them, waste of energy!

Most other places you can escape fairly quickly should the docent go longer than the attention span of your littles.  It is so friendly there and spaced out - your little one can get their wiggles out right in the "city street" and folks will smile and keep walking.

VERY family friendly.   Be sure to dress up if you have anything remotely colonial ish.  Especially 4 - 12 year old girls :)
