Will the upper levels of the curriculum be similar in format to Omnibus at all? Also, any ideas on when further levels will be released?

We tried Homer with dd in 6th and it was just too overwhelming to try and do all of the work they suggest in one week. I would recommend giving yourselves at least 2 weeks per lesson. After awhile we decided to set Homer aside and are now doing Beginning Poetry instead. Dd is more interested in poetry and it seems a more gentle introduction (IMHO) into formal writing.

Any recommendations for art history videos?

Hello all,
I am trying to figure out if there is such a thing as a "gentle approach" to formal logic. Right now dd is working on Venn-Perplexors and Perplexors and I've thrown in Singapore Math's CWP. However, I know that none of this is formal logic. Any ideas for what to do next?
Thanks:001_smile:

"She's doing an online writing program now, which seems similar to the material covered in Paragraph Town. It has really expanded her understanding of writing good paragraphs, but she doesn't do a lot of actual writing at this point (too young). I think we'll buy Paragraph Town too."
Which online writing program is she using?

My 1st and 2nd grader play an online geography game. Right now they are just doing the U.S. My 2nd grader (after a week) can correctly identify all the states. My 1st grader is still working on the western half but they are thoroughly enjoying the game.
This site also has games for all the continents, identifying presidents and so much more!
Here's the link: http://www.purposegames.com/games
Thanks for the link. I'll definitely use it. :001_smile:

That was my concern, except that I must admit she doesn't goof off (much). We have set lessons for each day and she simply isn't allowed (for the most part) to end the day until she has finished. So it isn't as if she is behind, per se, but rather that I think I may have been overly ambitious in my lesson planning!
I understand that perfectly. There are many times when my expectations are unrealistic. And I have to realize that we are making progress and can pick up there next year.

My biggest issue is making sure that the reason we aren't done with a subject is not because of goofing off. Any of my children who were focused actually have a summer, whereas the ones who were not have to finish up what I had scheduled for the school year.

I figure they'll get it eventually and one of the most important things is to instill a love of learning.

We're going to year round school, and the kids are actually on board with the decision. :)

Has anyone used the "Any Novel" Novel Reading Guide? I like the idea of only purchasing one book to help with reading comp.
Thanks,
Debbie

I am going to try something new this year - School 15 days of every month - that way we won't feel rushed and our off days can be used for fun projects or field trips or we can school on weekends if we want. I am planning on starting August 1. We will see how it goes. This year I stuck to a traditional public school schedule but we are done already and bored :-)
That sounds like a wonderful idea. Thanks ;)

I think prices may be cheaper at this website http://www.arn-rs4k.org/

My 3 oldest are in dance at the same studio and dd takes piano, but dh takes her to those. I think you need to see what works for you and your family and definitely don't worry about "keeping up with the Joneses".

I've used it with the oldest 3 and they are all excellent readers. :D

I've always used Zaner-Bloser, but recently I began using A Reason for Handwriting and the kids have enjoyed it.
