  1. Thanks for responding. I think we will just stick with Barton for the next level and see how it goes. MY dd is doing very well with it and we can budget for each next level as needed. My husband said not to go cheap but stick with what is working for her. Thanks again, Shelly
  2. Can anyone using this program tell me if you need training to implement it or are the videos that come with the complete program enough to show how to teach the program? We just started using the Barton program, we will be completing level two this week. I have found it very easy to use and my dd seems to like it so far. She just wasn't doing well with SWR after 4 years something was not clicking. After the first two levels of Barton I can see she now understands things I have tried to teach with SWR but just did not get to her correctly. Even though I am happy with Barton I know Wilson is supposed to be similar. Wilson is also less expensive than Barton with the total package a little more than one level of Barton. I just don't want to spend the money on the Wilson reading and realize that I just can't figure it out. My dd is 13 can read on a 4th grade level and spelling mastery at level M in the SWR program but she makes alot of spelling errors. She has a hard time implementing the spelling rules. She will spell even very easy to spell words like very she will spell "vary" I am hoping by using the Wilson or Barton program this will improve as she learns. I believe she is dyslexic but has never had her tested. She had vision therapy for two years and now has improved with it as much as she can. Thank you for any help I will spend the money on the Barton program if we need to. I just didn't want to purchase another level now that I know about the Wilson program without asking questions first. Thanks Shelly
  3. Katherine, We are just about to complete level 2 of Barton. My dd is 13y and she has struggled for 4 years with SWR. I finally gave up and switched to try Barton this summer. I gave Barton a try as I found both levels used at a good price. I am wondering if you could give some more info on Wilson before I purchase another level of Barton? Can you tell me if it is harder to use Wilson than Barton? I don't use the scripting in Barton just the basic outline to know what to do? MY DD reads at a 4-5th grade level but just can't seem to get passed that level and her spelling even though she knows all the 70 phonograms and can sound out words her spelling is really bad. I wished I would have switched from SWR sooner now. She has also completed two years of Vision therapy which has helped also. Thanks for any help you can give, Shelly
  4. Ellie, I took the class for SWR and the instructor said we were using it right. Oral phono review, written phono review, presenting the words, doing extra practice through the week. Then at the end of the week she would get most of the words right. But then a few weeks later in her writing she would get words wrong that she had learned a few weeks before. Then when I would remind her she had already learned a word she would not remember it. So I don't know something was just not clicking with her. I even stuck with it for 4 years but each new year when we did a placement test she would consistently test out lower than where we stopped the year before. I just tested her recently after taking this year off from it, she ended up being at list L the same as she had been the year before when we started. I was thinking of starting it again and she just doesn't want to and I don't want to put one more year into it to see no progress again.
  5. Hi, My dd is now 13 she has been struggling with reading for a long time. She can now on her own read the little house books which is wonderful. She had some vision problems that were not caught until 2 years ago and after Vision therapy she is doing better. We were using a Spell to write and read but she always struggled with it. Maybe from the vision problem. Could anyone recommend a good remedial reading program or maybe she should just practice reading daily. Also her spelling is bad. I don't know if we should just pick back up with Spell to write and read or is there something else any of you could recommend. Thanks
