Are nightguards SUPPOSED to make your teeth hurt?

Recommended Posts

I got a nightguard not long ago-a prescription one, and it's definite that I AM grinding at night, just looking at the thing-but I now wake up every morning with a headache and a sore mouth. Is this just a short-term thing that will pass when I get used to it, or is this something to drag poor DD to yet another dentist appointment for (it took four appointments to actually get a mold correct that the lab would accept-I'm allergic to the usual stuff they use, and the alternatives didn't come out clear enough to make the lab happy-so that's a lot of time she ended up doing schoolwork in the waiting room).

I love mine! It relaxes my jaw, and it look forward to having it in at night. There was an initial adjustment period that it felt somewhat uncomfortable in terms of how my toungue felt around it---maybe 3-4 days? I felt like gagging when when I woke up and had to take it out immediately. I never had any pain or headaches or sore mouth, though.

ETA: How long have you had it? I hope you don't need to do another mold, I found mine rather torturous. :grouphug:
