LAmom
Not a big fiction reader but time to take a break from other stuff. So, what should I read? Yes, I'm picky. I want to catch up on reading classics, etc., something to help me learn, be better educated and prepared to teach, but part of me wants to just do light, easy reading. A friend suggested getting into the A. McCall Smith books Ladies No. 1 Detective Series.... So, what do you suggest? No romance novels! Mrs Mungo
I think there are lots of books that are classics, but are also entertaining and easy to read. Many of them are even pleasurable to read. I don't think The Dostoevsky's The Idiot or James Joyce's Ulysses fall into these categories, but many other books do. :) Some examples, at least for me: To Kill a Mockingbird Lord of the Rings Brave New World 1984 Cat's Cradle Dune Heart of Darkness The Handmaid's Tale The Age of Innocence Starship Troopers The Left Hand of Darkness Beloved Something Wicked This Way Comes Fahrenheit 451 Rebecca Frankenstein Dracula Jane Eyre Wuthering Heights Persuasion
