Susan in TN
So dd and I were learning some basic (east coast) swing dance moves (thanks to youtube :)) and I'm wondering how they manage to do the steps (which are in 3 or 6 time) to music that is in 4/4 time? Please help me. :willy_nilly:
thescrappyhomeschooler
For East Coast swing, the steps are a 6 count and will even out with the music after 24 beats. So you will have completed 4 sets of steps in 6 bars of music. Does that make sense? Lindy hop is an 8 count step, so you complete each set in 2 bars. I love swing dancing! Friends of mine met at a swing club and when they got married, they had a swing band at their wedding, and I wanted to dance at it. So, before the wedding, I decided to take swing lessons. The girls at work persuaded me to ask a certain guy at the office to take the lessons with me, and that's how dh and I started dating. We kept taking lessons for a few years, but haven't for a while. We did teach a bunch of high school kids how to do the Jitterbug as a favor to a friend of mine who needed to choreograph it in a play. Such fun. We should take it up again. Enjoy! Susan in TN
Ok, that makes sense. I have no feet for dancing, but swing styles have always looked so fun. I'm trying to decide if I should/could persuade dh to take lessons with me for our 20th anniversary.
