Has anyone who has looked at HOD RTR determined it is too *light* for a 6th grader?

Recommended Posts

I'm considering it for next yr for dd. I need something preplanned that she can do fairly independently, and I like the resources they use. I figured I'd add in some outlining. (I would also sub Jump In for their writing since we've done so much IEW, and I would most likely do LL7 rather than their DITHOR lit stuff.)

Anyone considered it and thought it seemed light? I basically have no idea what a 6th grader should be doing. She is pretty advanced but has not done a lot of non-fiction independent reading, so I thought it might be a good but somewhat appealing transition into that.

I hope that it isn't too light for a 6th grader. I am planning on starting CTC with my 6th grader next year. That will put us using RTR in 7th. I plan on making some changes as well. I am not sure what I will use for writing, but probably not what is included. I also don't plan to use DITHOR either. I want to use LLFLOTR at some point, but I am not sure when my dd will be ready for it. The only thing that is giving me a lot of pause about starting with HOD next year is that several of the resources for the new guide are things we are using this year. I guess that might work out well in the end so we can work through that guide fairly quickly. I would really like to have completed a full history cycle before high school.
