binnsbrown
I know each of these courses has a different focus. Can someone shed light on these courses? Has anyone done the online labs for Campbell's biology? Thanks!
Elinor Everywhere
I'm bumping this because I'm curious about the labs, too. It seems odd to not do "real" labs, but if they work well I'd like to know about it!
Storm Bay
I can't tell you about the labs. However, Apologia is Christian & Campbell's is secular, so one has a creationist stance & the other the evolutionary stance.
Guest
JennW, where are you? Didn't your son do virtual labs to accompany the Campbell book?
JennW in SoCal
Here I am -- I was just writing you an e-mail, KarenAnne.:D Yes, Karin has pointed out the most obvious difference -- Campbell is secular and I think Apologia is not just Christian but is creationist. There are 3 different Campbell texts, I chose Concepts and Connections for no real reason other than I had scribbled once that it was the AP text -- I don't think it is, though! My ds did some of the on-line activities that you can access through the Campbell publisher. The best activities, hands down, came from Biology Corner. There were links to virtual labs, and all kinds of great worksheets. Again, this is secular. The on-line tests and quizes are not so great as they focus on minor details. My ds also watched the Teaching Company series: Biology: The Science of Life. It is detailed, some on this board have found it too detailed for a college course, but my ds had no trouble with it. He also used the Princeton Biology Coloring Book, and read some outside material such as Douglas Adams Last Chance to See and Olivia Judd's NYT column.
