Christy B
I know I keep saying I'm going to use textbooks but I keep finding my notes about Omnibus and I'm very reluctant to give up on the idea altogether. I have some questions . . . 1. One of the reasons I like the idea of Omni for my older is that I would love to use the VP cards with my younger. There are five sets of cards and three volumes of Omni -- any suggestions on how to line those up? (I wish everyone would use DATES instead of DESCRIPTIONS to divide their materials.) 2. How hard is it to line up a history text with the Omni volumes? I know Spielvogel is reference, but I see a lot of you use a different text. Do you match it up exactly or just divide your text into even readings throughout the year? 3. Can Omni III be tweaked to have an emphasis on American history? By use of an American history text? (I read somewhere that the online course used a BJUP American history text.) 4. Do I understand correctly that Omni tells you what and when to write, but not so much how to write? We recently found a program that "clicked" with my daughter as far as the how to write -- it leaves what and when up to the teacher. So, I think we might have that covered. I am not terribly concerned with learning the progym method; will we be able to figure out what sort of paragraph/essay/paper Omni is asking for? I think that's all for now, I'm sure your answers will prompt more questions. :)

I have some questions . . . Sorry, I can't help with this one. 2. How hard is it to line up a history text with the Omni volumes? I just divided the text into readings. 3. Can Omni III be tweaked to have an emphasis on American history? By use of an American history text? (I read somewhere that the online course used a BJUP American history text.) That is what we did this year. We loved it! I used William Bennett's Roadmap, Last Best Hope. Part of Omnibus's readings were the Constitution, and Federalist Papers. We moved slower then I hoped though, so we only did thorugh the Civil War. We'll do more next year. 4. I am not terribly concerned with learning the progym method; will we be able to figure out what sort of paragraph/essay/paper Omni is asking for? Yes. Omnibus doesn't tell how to write, but it does give clear directions on what to write. There are two to three writing assignments per book, plus essay questions at the end. I think that's all for now, I'm sure your answers will prompt more questions. :) Hopefully that helps.

laughing lioness
In response to Questions 1 (sorta): we have memorized the VP history cards as a timeline. We go back and reference the cards when they come up in Omni

We go back and reference the cards when they come up in Omni Can you give me an idea of which cards go with which volume of Omni? I'm looking at the catalog, and it looks like maybe the first two sets would go with Volume I, the third set with Volume II, and the last two sets with Volume III.
