Sharon H in IL
I tried to save a few bucks by not buying the teacher's manual for Rod & Staff English 6, and see what happens! My brain goes numb one day, and I can't diagram a simple sentence. Help me identify the parts of speech in this sentence: "I told Karen and Karla about the lost broom." subject: I verb: told prep phrase: about the lost broom Q: Are "Karen and Karla" direct objects or indirect objects? OhM
Since it answers "subject-verb-who or what?" I think direct object.
Kathleen in VA
Yes, direct object is the correct answer. Eliminate the prepositional phrase and you have "I told Karen and Karla." It would be similar to the sentence, "I baked cookies," where cookies is the direct object.
