Both the House plan and the president-elect's plan would raise the standard deduction and eliminate all itemized deductions except for mortgage interest and charitable contributions. Right now we deduct a whole bunch of things including state income taxes and property taxes. The total is more than the numbers I've seen for the higher standard deduction.
