Redbird Advanced Math

DD is moving rather quickly through Mathseeds and she works a lot better on the computer than with a human. DD is currently working through the second grade curriculum of Mathseeds and working through the Singapore 1B. I'm planning on using BA when we get to that level (oh how I wish they would hurry up and publish 2nd grade). Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has used Redbirds Advanced Math and what their opinion was.

DD is 6 and going into 1st grade, but I think she will be doing 3rd grade math by Christmastime.

You may want to consider using SM's Intensive Practice and Challenging Word Problems books to provide more depth and challenge. Those are well worth your time to do. I was surprised at the complexity of some of the problems in those books. It has been very stretching for my son.

I also use other math resources to offer challenge and depth as appropriate to develop problem solving skills and stamina.

My kids do Redbird (for 10 months now) and they like doing it. It is adaptive as it advertises. However, I have seen some inability of them translating what they learned (on the computer) to what they do on paper. They don't seem to 'recognize' that the concept on paper is the same one they did in Redbird. I suspect this is an age thing: they were in 1st and 3rd when they started Redbird. This does not negate the fact that they did learn. But, I won't be renewing because of this. I don't know if it is just my kids, but they need to do it with pencil and paper for them to 'realize' that they know how to do it.

So, give it a test run and see if yours can make that translation before signing up for a year like I did.

Thanks for letting me know your experience. I was thinking of pairing Redbird with BA to get the paper aspect of things. I hoping this pairing will work well for DD. She is a little high strung when she doesn't understand something. I know she will begin to settle with age, as she has come a long way already.
