Evaluating source material?

My son needs to watch the 7th lecture in the Hillsdale College Constitution 101 series. It's entitled:

“The Progressive Rejection of the Principles of the Declarationâ€

It apparently discusses, in part, the work of a Dr. Frank Goodnow, who they call an important figure in the progressive era.  However, I can find very little commentary on him from the left that show that they embraced him as a leading figure. Most of the work that points to that idea come from professors at Hillsdale College.

What parameters should I be using? If he is really critical, there should be a lot supporting documentation, right?
