give_me_a_latte
How similar are these? Are they basically identical formats, just one has spanish words and the other latin? Looking through samples of Song School Latin and Spanish, it looks almost like they just changed out the spanish and latin words and kept everything else the same. So I'm curious if that's also the case with LFC/SFC.
SilverMoon
No, they are not *as* similar as the Song School books, but they do have a lot in common. The format of the LFC and SFC lessons are similar, but the feel is pretty different. SFC is much more conversational. LFC has more writing and memory tools, which we really needed. They're both: watch the dvd; chant your words, read the grammar, do the worksheet, etc. LFC has a maxim, conjugation or declension chant, and an average of 10 new words per lesson. SFC has a common question and answer, a few extra conversation words, a conjugation chant, and 10 words. IMO SFC expects a bit more maturity. LFC A is great for the average 3rd grader, but SFC would be a stretch. Definitely more 4th-5th for starting SFC. Fwiw, we used LFC for years and I avoided SFC because I was concerned about them keeping their vocab straight. This spring I saw a cheap SFC on the used market and kicked myself for not doing it sooner. We already know CAP materials work well for us and it felt like a breath of fresh air. Even my highschoolers do the chants.
