SilverMoon
Would the Wordsmith level be doable for a 6th grader who enjoyed and completed Wordsmith Apprentice? The challenge level was/is just right for him. I see Wordsmith says grades 7-9, but the (small) samples don't look too difficult for him. The general style looks the same even if it doesn't have the fun newspaper element.
Lori D.
Not a problem to go with WS in 6th grade. Your student will find that it's not "fun" in tone like WSA. But it is easy for the student to do largely solo, as was WSA. Our experience: DS#1 did WS directly after WSA, and it was fine, if a tad light, and he finished well before the end of the school year (so, you may want to have other go-to assignments or a supplement to either spread out WS, or to do when you finish it). DS#2 did WSA, and then Jump In. We attempted WS after Jump In, but it was way too lite by that time. If you were planning to do all 3 of those programs, WS would be best just before Jump In; and, you may find that if you were planning on using Jump In, you may just want to go straight to that if your student is a strong enough writer, and doesn't need the "half step" in-between program of WS. Hope that helps! Warmest regards, Lori D.
SilverMoon
That does help. Thank you! :) It sounds like a perfect fit for this boy. He will have plenty of fun in other subjects to make up for it. I have Jump In, and I think he would rise to that challenge, but I'd rather hold off awhile. We could play with the Lifeguard Locker extras if he whips through WS.
