Rachel
I thought the expiration date starts from the packaging date........kinda like millk, even if you don't open it it still starts to age, although I could be wrong.
Canada_Mom
But I do know that vitamin supplements like Preggo vitamins or Vit. A/B/C/D etc. that are not oils are valid far past their expiration date. I buy my supplements directly from my health care provider and often times he will give me bottles that are about to expire for free b/c we have been under his care for a long time. He says that vitamin companies HAVE to put a date but the vitamins are fine after their expiry date... atleast the brands that I get from him! :) I'm not saying that everybody should go ahead and consume "expired" vitamins, but that I would not be scrupulous if you have a bottle that expired a short while ago... ;) I would assume that a date on the bottle would mean the date the vitamins would be guaranteed to, whether or not the bottle has been opened. The exception to this could be essential oils (salmon/cod liver etc) or vitamins like E that are oils inside a capsule. I believe those tend to expire after a set amount of time of being opened.
