CatholicMom
What are the big foreign language programs to look into? I'm thinking of Latin and Spanish. Is it doable to study both at the same time, or is that asking a bit much? I would not start them simultaneously. About what grade is ideal to start a foreign language? Does Latin count as a foreign language on a high school transcript? I've only heard of spanish, french, and german in public schools. So I wanted to make sure. I'm in NY. Just thinking ahead. Any other tips?
Esse Quam Videri
I'm no expert, but we started Latin this year with Prima Latina for a 1st and 3rd grader. We use the DVDs, TM, and workbooks, and we are all really enjoying it. It is such a basic intro that both kids are retaining a lot. Actually, even my 4 year old can say the Sanctus, just from listening in :-). We are also working on French b/c kiddos are interested, but not as intentionally as Latin. We will continue both, and hopefully add another in later years. I believe Latin does count as a foreign language for high school and college. Even ASL counts!
