When did you start using IEW's Poetry Memorization?

We are using LDTPM, and started when the boys were in 1st and 2nd grade.

 

I don't think there is any reason why you couldn't start some of those first poems with a K, but I also think even in level one they get pretty difficult quickly. You would probably have more fun picking some poems that they really want to do at first.

We just started using IEW's Developing Linguistic Patterns Through Poetry Memorization a few weeks ago with my kids, ages 7 & 8. They LOVE it! Just today, we were driving in the car and reciting together the poems we've learned so far. We're really enjoying it.

The Grammar of Poetry is for older students (if memory serves me well). We used "Developing Linguistic Patterns" this past year (pre-k and 2nd grade). There are 4 levels -- each containing 20 poems. You can choose the pacing that best fits your schedule. Both of my girls memorized the first half of level A (10 poems). My dd7 also started a poetry notebook where she copies and illustrates each poem that she memorizes. I'm stretching out the pace because some of the poems get quite lengthy and include advanced vocabulary. HTH!
