jabuford
Does anyone have a special book you use to find most of your dictation exercises? My children haven't done much of dictation and then it was only from spelling. 5th grade level. Oh and another question. Do you use whole poems at one sitting or do you just do sentences from the poem?
LindaOz
We use Spelling Wisdom for a lot of our dictation. This is found at http://www.simplycharlottemason.com You can see samples there to choose the right level. The good thing about it is that the passages are put together so as to cover all the most common spelling words. Sometimes, I will choose a passage from a history book and my dc will study a paragraph at a time for dictation. This way the same passage will continue for a number of dictation lessons. You could also do the same from literature books or whatever else. As for poems, it depends on the child and the length of the poem really. A younger child might write one or two lines of a poem for dictation, but an older child could write one or more stanzas or the whole poem. Julie in GA
I have a freebie list that's published on Lulu.com that you can download. Just do a search on my name (Julie Shields) and look for the Dictation Selections book.
