Karri
DS-15 used SOS High School Spanish 1 this year. He did great all year until the last section when his grades took a major nosedive. I'm wondering if this is a sign of things to come. Is there a steep learning curve once you get to SOS Spanish 2? Is that last section of SOS Spanish 1 indicative of how a student will fair in SOS Spanish 2? I'm wondering whether to continue with SOS Spanish or put him in a class where he can get some live feedback from the instructor. Thanks, Karri
Captivated
I can only speak to my son's experience with SOS. He just finished SOS Span II and was pretty successful both years. SOS Span II is pretty intense but he felt SOS Span I set him up to do well in Span II. If it were me, I would have your ds redo the last section - do you think it is "end of year-itis"? My ds gets this really bad!! He kinda gives up at the end of the year cause he just wants it done. We end up with quite a few "opportunities to try harder" at the end of the year. :)
periwinkle
Sometimes the end of the year poses problems in concentration. Perhaps he could pick the last section of Spanish I up again at the beginning of next year, before he starts Spanish II? Or take a short break and review concepts with Standard Deviants Spanish (library?) or pick up an easy Spanish reader for variety's sake. However-if we had easy access to a class with a live teacher, we would have used it!
