tntgoodwin
If I understand correctly, MOH uses a 3 year history cycle, right? How easy would it be to modify it to use a 4 year cycle? Has anyone done this? Would it work to do 1st grade history with the first 3/4ths of the first book? TIA
daybreaking
Actually, MOH will be a four-year cycle once the final volume, MOH IV, is completed. Take a look at www.themysteryofhistory.com for details.
tntgoodwin
Hmmm...is there another similar history program that uses a 3 year cycle? And would MOH work for a first grader (and then work for a 5th grader also, 4 years later)? How "open-and-go" is it?
boscopup
Take a look at the samples. I think it's a bit much for a lot of first graders. I went with SOTW for first grade, which was perfect (and got DS hooked on history), and in 5th grade we might do MOH1 with something else. I think MOH is better suited to that age than 1st grade. cjgrubbs
My 2nd grader loved MOH last year - we did the timeline and some fun activities. We will use MOH vol 2 this upcoming year. It was his favorite subject and my 5th grader's favorite too!
Milknhoney
Last year I bought MOH to use with my first grader. The preview lesson seemed fine to me but once I actually had it in my hands, I knew it was way over his head. It says you can adapt it for younger ages, but I can't see doing that unless you were already using for an older student too. I put it away for 5th grade and ordered SOTW1 instead. indigomama
We used MOH vol1 this year for my 1st grader and he loved it! We read the lesson, did a notebook page, did the map work and timeline. We will be doing vol 2 for 2nd grade.
