TOG: Rhetoric Level for 9th grade. I have a Q about writing.

My son is certainly ready for the rhetoric level reading and discussion. I'm not sure he's ready for Writing Aids-style instruction on essays. Writing Aids looks a little vague to me.

 

What do you think of having him do Write Shop II during his 9th grade year instead of the TOG assignments?

 

I think I want him to have the incremental foundation that Write Shop will provide. I think that WSII in 9th will prepare him to write TOG papers of higher quality in grades 10-12.

 

I just glanced through the first two units of my TOG year 1 (DE) plan. I saw several writing assignments that are certainly within his grasp. I would assign those if he were handling the work load well.

 

Thoughts?

 

I forgot to mention that he has already completed half of Write Shop I and will finish it before starting 9th grade in the fall.
