Negin
Has anyone tried these? Liked them or not? Thank you. :)
beachnut
No, we've never tried those books. However, we've really enjoyed lots of books from the Critical Thinking Company, especially those in math, language arts & history (for middle/high school). Lori D.
We've used the English one (by Deborah Eaton) and the Algebra one (by Hope Martin). We did them in late middle school years (gr. 7/8) aloud together as a sort-of "brain warm-up" to the day. The level of problem-solving of the puzzles probably runs from grade 7 through grade 10 -- so parts of the books you may just want to skip over in the earlier years, an then come back to them in high school. We used most of the English one. There are a wide variety of types of puzzles; not having to write down answers made it more of a fun activity for younger DS who hates writing. We did much less of the Algebra one, as younger DS balked saying some of the puzzles were too much like math (he also hates math). There are a number of puzzles in the Algebra one that are more logic or critical-thinking oriented, and so those were the puzzles we did do. BEST of luck, whatever you go with! Warmest regards, Lori D.
